Join the celebration, sing and dance, and discover how it all began! Ten years after Mamma Mia! The Movie premiered, you’re invited back to the magical Greek island of Kalokairi in this musical sequel based on the songs of ABBA. Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is now pregnant, and like her mother Donna (Meryl Streep), she’ll need to take risks. The film’s original cast returns, with new additions including Lily James as a young Donna, Andy Garcia and Oscar® winner Cher.
Discover how it all began. Five years after meeting her three fathers, Sophie Sheridan prepares to open her mother’s hotel. In 1979, young Donna Sheridan meets the men who each could be Sophie’s biological father.. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Wiki
This movie, just like the first one, is definitely cheesy. A bit too cheesy in some moments. But, like the first one as well, it is enjoyable and has a happy vibe. Lily James as the young version of Meryl Streep’s character is amazing and she is really what holds the film together. She is very genuine and is never pretentious or annoying, which I bet is very hard to not be in these types of movies. Each of the three young versions of the men are decent enough. One thing I didn’t like is when they cut back to the present day, it’s usually just Sophie whining and complaining. She seems so old now compared to the first one where she was just carefree. The scene where she goes around straightening the maids and butlers’ uniforms while they smile at her touch was really cringey and reminiscent of those old movies where the matriarch of a house would go around and inspect all the slaves. Also, as with the first one, the plot is pretty thin and sometimes the ready-made Abba songs really do not fit the scene at all. In less than two hours they have to show Donna meeting all three men, getting down and dirty, cut back to the present a bunch, and shove all the Abba songs in too. However, these problems don’t really detract from the film too much. But the presence of Lily James is really what makes the film so enjoyable.
Is awesome the move but some times it hurts to see Lyly James sad at her character in the movie. Cause Donna in the first movie she express her feelings
Best movie ever
Lily James was absolutely perfect for her role as Donna. To be completely honest, I didn’t quite understand the first one. I just watched it because of the fuss about it from my relatives. This second one, however, gave perfect background. Such a hoot and certainly better than the first movie! Not that the first one was bad... This one was just easier to follow. The music was splendid, too. Love the “vibes”. For those who like overthinking movies, be careful with this one. The plot kinda goes nuts and takes random turns— especially with Donna’s mom/the grandma. If you just live in the moment with the cast, you will enjoy the movie. I know I did.
Didn’t come even close to original. The younger version of Donna was way over acted, ridiculously over sexy but she had an ok voice.
Belongs in the dumpster
Here we go again is amazing! The songs and the cast shines! We get to see the backstory that we all have been wondering about!
Just a vehicle for ok actors and a horrible storyline. Sure makes you realize how much Meryl makes a movie work! This is a terrible part 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Save your money and get an enema! It will be better than this!!!!!!!!
This movie has some great actors but also some really bad performances... I’m glad I rented it and not bought it but still. Maybe $1 to rent would’ve been a more appropriate price. Of course the plot was bad (it’s just a”storyline” to justify the songs). Thankfully Meryl made an appearance!!
It was just bad acting and bad singing. I love a good musical and I love ABBA but it was so cheesy, I dont understand the good reviews at all.
The worst movie ever.
a piffle with underwhelming versions of mostly mediocre Abba until Cher picks the whole thing up in the last quarter of the movie - Meryl Streep's cameo is for billing purposes only - but the venture is nevertheless a fairy tale, a fantasy, a musical with enough colour, delightful sets, locations to make the entire thing worth it, a complete entertainment, see it
At first I honestly had some doubts about the sequel as I didn't want Mamma Mia to be ruined....but they did definitely not disappoint or ruin it! I have seen it 5 times already and love it more each time! You will sing, you will laugh, and you will cry....a story about life and love we all can relate to.
Movie is great but there is a problem with the French audio mix’s central channel in the songs. English main lyrics are barely audible. No problem with English mix. My daughter love this movie so much. Please repair the French mix for her. :)
Beautiful, feel great movie, watched 4 times in theatre!
When Cher is just like “Great Grandmother. leaving that out of the bio”
I never want to see this movie again. I went to see it in hopes I would add it to my collection of movies and was so disappointed. The acting was only fair. Meryle really should retire, so should Cher.
I’ve seen this in theatres 3 times now and I still can’t get enough of it!!!!
This movie is outstanding!!!, The cast is on point !! The Music Makes you wanna Dance The Songs make you wanna sing out loud!!!! I saw this movie about 5 times , and would watch it over again !!! Enjoy !!!!
