In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro), who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town's sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches. Based on the beloved children's classic book.
This house knows what makes you tick. Lewis Barnavelt, a shy but indomitable ten-year-old orphan, goes to live with his uncle Jonathan, a former entertaining magician, who hides too many creepy secrets, in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart which Jonathan is obsessed to find with the assistance of his enigmatic next-door neighbor Mrs. Zimmerman.. My whole family enjoyed this movie.... It was simply fun and full of laughter.
Creepy creepy, dark (more than needed) and NOT funny, whatsoever. It had the potential to be really good AND funny but the writers/directors failed at every turn. As a conservative parent, I would not recommend this.... It freaked our 9 yr old son out 1/2 way through. We shut the movie off! This movie was a total failure. Cate had some great moments, Jack too (and we usually very much like his work) but the writers dropped the ball to build the characters and just opted for affects, and gross darkness. Yuck! My husband and I watched to rest alone after son was in bed and it just got worse. The movie has more than one scene with characters doing graphic and satanic (by the movie’s own admission!) blood potions/spells which included a knife cutting the palm of the characters hand, and a demonic character licking blood, spells raising the dead to life, really gross....it was NOT a parody, nor funny....also includes Evil Jack-o-lanterns which spewing pumpkin guts all over the people.... It was dark, disgusting and unnecessary. Very disappointed and disturbed by this movie and even MORE disturbed that it’s being marketed to kids or even listed as PG. NOT PG....at all. Maybe by some movie-law guidebook as there is no nudity or super bad language but it is totally NOT appropriate for kids!!!!!!
Somehow the clock ⏰ ran out here
I am a Cate and Jack fan, but it’s a little to heavy with demons and possession for small children. My kids stopped watching at that point. I did not look at the rating, as I assumed it would be ok.
This movie was really good to be honest
This movie was great for older children. It was slightly creepy and weird, but defiantly worth paying for
It’s no masterpiece, but it is devilishly fun.
This was so funny and scary at the same time when I first saw this movie I was so happy to see this movie
Jeez that was one annoying kid. Should 've lost the kid in the beginning and focused on Cate and Jack's characters who were 10 times more interesting.
Very enjoyable, I intend to purchase this movie when and if it comes to apple if not I'll get it from a store for my collection of well done movies. I truly believe there could have been a lot more to this movie then what there was and that is the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
I read the book last year and then I just saw the movie. The book had more detail in it and my opinion is that the movie was all over the place. The trailer looked interesting. It felt like a Halloween movie. But all over I liked both. 10/10 would Watch.
