A stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of free solo climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream:scaling the face of the world’s most famous rock — the 3,200-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park — without a rope. Renowned filmmakers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin capture the death-defying climb with exquisite artistry and masterful, vertigo-inducing camerawork.
Live beyond fear. Follow Alex Honnold as he attempts to become the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemite's 3,000 foot high El Capitan wall. With no ropes or safety gear, this would arguably be the greatest feat in rock climbing history.. Free Solo Wiki
Honestly, I couldn’t get through this movie. Beautiful scenery but I couldn’t stand this guy. He came off pompous and arrogant. The trailers were enough for me.
This movie was amazing and really fun to watch!!!! Truly inspiring :-)
To all those who watch this I dare you not to look away. I once tried rock climbing it scared the hell out of me. So instead I became a hang glider. Looking back at it now I think of all the people who told me what I was doing was crazy risking my life. Luckily. I lived to tell the tale.
This guy is crazy :). This documentary was awesome, my hands were actually sweating watching him make the climb and we were all on the edge of our seats. Great film!
First of all, before this documentary came out the Grammy’s spoiled the ending for this, so that makes it very predictable. Also, the movie is 1:30:00 and 10:00 of the climb. Awful document, at least he did the impossible.
This a truly well done documentary, with a broad focus on the motivation, inner fortitude, resolve and athleticism required to acheive a climb up El Cap without ropes. I found Alex Honnold to be a deeply interesting and inspirational character, not to mention occasionally laugh-out-loud funny. (!) During the making of this documentary, Alex acquires a girlfriend and the ways in which that affects and complicates the climb makes this more that a one-dimensional adventure story. The photography is astounding, and it's intense to watch the climb, even knowing that he makes it. Highly recommend!
For anyone who is fascinated by the psychology of extreme athletes, this is a must see. Quite fascinating to witness the narrow focus it takes to achieve a goal. The driving force behind this climb comes from deep within the climber. It saps away so much energy it creates unbalanced relationships. You see Immense courage, remarkable skill (math/physics style), and his personal resolve. A thrilling movie, but one filled with shots at great heights. The photography is remarkable. The danger of climbing El Capitan is real, and the level of execution is beyond X.
The best and scariest movie ever. Truly asstounding.
by far one of the best films i have ever seen. simply incredible.
I’m not an adrenaline junkie, by far. But the way this was filmed was completely gut wrenching and on the edge of your seat compelling. I had to keep watching. I was so nervous in the end my palms were sweating. Worth every minute of your time to watch.
Best horror movie of 2018!
Totally captivating. This film totally changed how I view the world and climbing. Masterpiece of a experience.
This dude is absolutely insane.
A somewhat callous and bold endeavour documented quite well
What a phenomenal doc. You become submersed in this incredible story. Highly recommend!
Loved this film. If you have an adventurous bone in your body, you need to watch it.
I saw this film in theatres, which was a crazy experience wtih the camera angles. While it may technically be a documentary, it is so engagning and interesting that you forget this wasn't something scripted. Alex is not only an awe-inspring climber, he is also genuinly funny and interesting as a person. I came away from this movie completely in awe of what he acomplished. I'm not a climber myself, but I didn't need to be in order to appreciate this film. I completey reccomend this to absolutly everyone!
This looks so amazing. Can’t wait to watch
A must see even if you don’t climb, super intense. Loved it !!
This movie gives you a visceral reaction that has you tense and pushing back in your seat for all it is worth. You know he lives but this still does not help with the stress.
Great documentary!!! The guy is super human!!!
I don’t climb or know anything about climbing, what I do know is this is simply unreal. The feat itself, the man’s humility and the movie, incredible. Take my money.
One of the most amazing and inspiring movies ever. True human endurance and determination. Heart stopping edge of your seat viewing, camera crew did an amazing job capturing this amazing feat.
I've been sitting on Pre-Ordered for weeks. when does this drop? im over it. Its available in US online and in cinema, available in Aus in cinema, yet iTunes wants to play big dawg. seriously frustrated, its 2019.
What can you say? Alex Honnold is a human of rare qualities and abilities. Free Solo is a glimpse into the essence of what makes him pursue one of the most dangerous activities of them all, while also excelling at it. I’m not a climber, yet I can’t stop watching this film.
Release this already
Just saw this at the cinema. This film is really something.
