A stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of free solo climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream:scaling the face of the world’s most famous rock — the 3,200-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park — without a rope. Renowned filmmakers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin capture the death-defying climb with exquisite artistry and masterful, vertigo-inducing camerawork.
Live beyond fear. Follow Alex Honnold as he attempts to become the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemite's 3,000 foot high El Capitan wall. With no ropes or safety gear, this would arguably be the greatest feat in rock climbing history.. Free Solo Wiki
This is an insightful film on several levels: In following “The Call” and “Crossing the Threshold” some who have a rugged individuality, may not have time to develop a personality.
What a story. Was biting my nails the whole time. Don’t fall!
Gripping and fascinating. Keeps you watching from start to finish.
I just wish there was more of Alex Honald climbing El Capitan.
What a film, defineflty recomend!
Pretty decent, but took too long for him to get to climbing. Also it left out the perfect climbs he did with ropes, so it made it look like he just went for it without ropes, even though prior scenes showed him messing up with ropes.
this was one of the best suspense movies that is actually a documentary. it's a must see... you will not be disappointed!! it would be great if there was a film about the backstory: Alex's early family life. it takes an extraordinary person to be so determined AND so successful... would love to know more.
Thirty three minutes into this documentary the bickering starts with the girlfriend. He himself remarked she was present both times when he was injured. I think his mistress is the mountain which leaves no room for romance. I am weary of her whining. I stopped at 30 minutes to check reviews thinking it was just me. The only negativity was towards Sanni. National Geographic should have left her out altogether. I’m not sure I want to watch the rest.
This is an amazing movie for anyone to watch! Well done
I don't write reviews. This movie is amazing. Just watch it already.
This is an unconventional extreme sport. The incredible Alex is so focused on his goal that nothing is more important. This was beyond a thriller. I had to physically look away even knowing that he survives. The total respect I have for his need to accomplish his goal is admirable. A must See!
Best horror movie of 2018!
Totally captivating. This film totally changed how I view the world and climbing. Masterpiece of a experience.
This dude is absolutely insane.
A somewhat callous and bold endeavour documented quite well
What a phenomenal doc. You become submersed in this incredible story. Highly recommend!
Loved this film. If you have an adventurous bone in your body, you need to watch it.
I saw this film in theatres, which was a crazy experience wtih the camera angles. While it may technically be a documentary, it is so engagning and interesting that you forget this wasn't something scripted. Alex is not only an awe-inspring climber, he is also genuinly funny and interesting as a person. I came away from this movie completely in awe of what he acomplished. I'm not a climber myself, but I didn't need to be in order to appreciate this film. I completey reccomend this to absolutly everyone!
This looks so amazing. Can’t wait to watch
A good film but at times I found it slow paced and maybe could have been 20 minutes shorter to keep things rolling as a fair portion of the film is focused on him lamenting of family , consequences etc .
It’s a great film that motivates me to chase excellence. It’s a ‘must watch’.
Alex you’re an absolute champion! Your determination and hard work proves even more that anything is possible. Great palm sweating type documentary. PS; disregard the one star review. Seems like a jealous rant.
I think over time this 'event' will be hailed as one of man's great moments. As important as the moon landings or first flights, but this captures a singular human spirit and reaching a level of perfection many perhaps will not understand. Alex is sure a flawed personality but one of the best aspects of this documentary is his journey, from someone seemingly without an emotional side, to someone who at the end has evolved into a warmer, loving person and his relationship with San San is as fantastic as him getting through the Boulder Problem
Amazing feat by Alex and the movie has captured this so well
He’s a real boring dude, and an even more boring documentary until he climbs, which is about 15 minutes before the end. Skip to that bit, it’s really intense.
Outstanding documentary which holds your attention all the way through. Brilliant cinematography that gives you a real sense of being there and a visceral reaction to look away at times. Also a really good examination into the guy's personal life and motivation as well as the complexities of producing such a film.
Expect to be on the edge of seat and your heart beating a million miles an hour. Truely amazing accomplishment and talent. Saw this at the movies and loved every minute.
Kent’s got ball off steel
I would recommend buying this documentary. You're definitely going to watch it over and over.
Great insight into something most of us would never even dream of attempting
