A police detective reconnects with people from an undercover assignment in her distant past in order to make peace.
There's nothing to lose when you've already lost everything. Erin Bell is an LAPD detective who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.. What The Town and The Accountant did for Ben Affleck, Destroyer will do for Nicole Kidman. Kidman's deeply complex character reveals her multiple layers as the movie travels back in time to expose the viewer to the historical traumas that helped define her life's trajectory, while seen physically in her current deeply tortured body and soul. In addition to the richness of Kidman's anti-hero character, she pulls the weight of an intelligent thriller all on her own. I was blown away by the multiple character developments and the attempts by Kidman's character to rectify unresolved painful issues that are ensuring that her pain and suffering will affect more than just a single generation. Unresolved traumas and tragic events seem to jump from generation to generation. Until the trauma is confronted and destroyed. She's not called the "Destroyer" for nothin'!
This movie drags so much, I regret buying it. Story line is so cliché. Nicole Kidman how ever looks so different, makeup artist did an amazing job in transforming her.
Gave up after about 20 minutes. Even if you are into psych dramas, rent don't buy and be prepared to read something else while watching this movie..
This is a different kind of a role and movie than anything Nicole has done in her career and is definitely one of her top best ones to date. She deserves an Oscar for this role and so does the makeup department for their role in transforming her appearance for the movie. I highly recommend this to everyone that likes a good crime drama and wants to see Nicole take on a different role and expand her acting ability.
This film is totally cinematic!Nicole Kidman is amazing in this role. The film has a look and mood to it ,it’s gritty dark and has a really solid storyline... I was blown away! it’s heartbreaking Character study of a woman who’s lost it all and has nothing to lose. In The landscape of movies these days that are mostly comic book and action films it’s refreshing to watch an independent film with really good acting.Great film!!
The film drags on and on through stochatic time shifts which don't glue the plot together but rather make it more paralogical until in the end you are left with something mashed up and wasted, like the main character.
I found this film absolutely riveting. Nicole Kidman’s performance was one of artistic achievement. Non-linear in it’s storytelling, the film was interspersed with flashbacks that were foreshadowing a certain doom. Relentlessly bleak without relief, it was a cinematic experience about abuse, regret, and the self destructive choices of characters with a dark and victimized pasts. Long story, short- a great film.
The movie is okay, the casting feels a little weird and its not very attention holding throughout. Sebastian Stan was great in it though, and I wish the story would’ve expanded on that side of the main character’s life more. However, not too bad, would watch again though I wouldn’t buy it.
