Stranger❤️Things❤️Lover❤️ - Wow
This is one of my favorite movies! I’ve read all the books at least six times. This was actually my first horror movie so I recommend it to the “younger age” it would be an amazing movie to watch as your first horror movie. All in all I totally recommend the movie!💕
Hey I have... - An idea-
It was ok, for a Pg13. If they do make a sequel, they should make it rated R. I got what they where going for; but the fear and scare factor that I got from the books was not fully present in the movie. I kinda understand why they went for Pg13; for the next generations to experience what we experienced as we read the books back then. I heard the books got taken out of school libraries, so making this Pg13 opens a way for our kids to experience what we experienced; but we can still buy the books. Anyway, once the new generations get to the age where they can see rated R movies, then the sequel should hit the with that fear and scare factor that the books offered; that is the goal of the movie. In conclusion, start with a light movie version of the book; then introduce the fear that we got from the books into the Rated R version of the movie. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the books❤️; they aren’t no Goosebumps stories.
The Coasterboy - Great movie also their is more to it then meets the eye
This was my first horror movie. This movie does so many things right and well. Using actors for the monsters instead of CGI made a difference and created a more realistic viewing experience. The story held up well overall. The setting in its story gave it so much more. It gave you a invite into what society thought of minority groups. Overall this movie has a deeper meaning to it and this movie is on top of my list of unique horror movies. Can’t wait for the sequel. Keep up the good work Del Torro.
insane the metal god - I just saw this movie in the movies
Keep up the good work
ir on e Sc m - Great Movie!
I recently watched this movie earlier today and I really loved it. The kid characters were well acted and very likable. And the attention to detail on the monsters was also spot on. Couldn’t have asked for anything better 🙂
Nicholas becerra - Goosebumps treat but nah gooly stuff
scary stories to tell in the dark is a non-scary movie that means when iam suffering from insomina this movie is my visual treat!
G---Man - Not bad, pretty scary
This was not a bad movie, but could have been better. The storyline was perfect for a young audience, but not well refined for an audience with life experiences. Needed a little more refinement to be perfect.
Draznin - Bleh
The movie created a story to overlay multiple concepts from the books.
That story wasn’t very good, and the stories inserted into it were barely fleshed out. I had high hopes as I loved these books, but they dropped the ball hard on what should have been an easy win.
The_Clooney - It’s not the scary stories from the book
This Isn’t it based off of the scary stories from the book. It’s totally different and to be honest was kinda cheesy.
theappleofadam - Fingers crossed
So much better than expected. Good twists and turns. Meant for a younger crowd but still an awful lot of fun. Nostalgic for sure. Ending set up for a sequel. Hope it happens.
rkf05 - Is This Supposed to be a Scary Movie?
"Horror" movies that are supposed to be scary but end up being boring are the worst. I rented this because I thought itwas going to be an anthology of horror stories, but that is not what it is. It is a mediocre to bad horror genre movie that is a waste of time. It's too bad that younger audiences today are not exposed to truly scary horror films and settle for drivel like this. Take Martin Scorcese's list of best horror films:
Dead of Night (Alberto Cavalcanti, Charles Crichton, Basil Dearden and Robert Hamer, 1945)
The Changeling (Peter Medak, 1980)
The Shining (Stanley Kubrick, 1980)
The Exorcist (William Friedkin, 1973)
Night of the Demon (Jacques Tourneur, 1957)
The Innocents (Jack Clayton, 1961)
Psycho (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960)
Now THAT is a list of horror movies!
BTheeArtist - Pretty Good
Very interesting! Worth watching.
Dafinator - Great entertainment
Really fun movie. Great to snuggle up and watch. It’s silly sometimes but it’s obviously fiction and just a fun movie. Hope there is a sequel.
Wim 6801 - Disappointed
Couldn’t wait for it to be over!!
SAMUEL MAFFIE - SAMUEL MAFFIE
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 2?14 (2020)
Ernie_2020 - Felt neutral
I was like between wanted to like it and not!! I dont know it could be just me but I feel like the picture quality was ehh, and the audio was just off balanced!
MathOsGuru - Great Ghost Story Movie
Good story, good acting, good cinematics, and all around good movie. Waiting for the next installment ... storyline can easily continue. Worth the rental price hands down. Enjoy.
Mak0l - Blue Tint - Unwatchable
I also experienced the movie going blue and black during many dark scenes. This made the movie unwatchable as I could barely make out what was happening on screen.
endo1234567890 - Español stereo please
Español stereo please
James9791 - Kids Movie
This felt too much like a kids movie, like "Goosebumps" or something. I didn't notice the PG-13 rating. All the main characters are teenagers. Some of the performances were pretty grating, including the main acress (Zoe Colletti). I was hoping for something more scary.
flor814 - just bad
this movie was just a waste of my time!!! horrible storyline and horrible acting
hoverboard63 - Great movie!
I loved Scary Stories! I thought it had a great relation to the stories in the book, and seeing them come to life in this movie was incredible!
Dena.... - Pass
I really wanted to like this and looked forward to it. However it seems to be a horror maybe for children, not scary. Acting was sub par and nothing really horror about it except the fictional characters. If you really like horror movies and are a big fan as I am, this robs my won’t appeal to you...
CLVLNDROX123 - Amazing
Easily my favorite horror film
biggy 828 - !!!😻
boss Gavin - Pretty good
This is the perfect movie to show to people who are not ready for the extreme ones, I know my little brother will like it. I think you should give it a try.
torturekiller - The books were great when I was a kid!
This movie though yaaaaaawn!🥱😴
Santivasci - Excellent Horror Film!
Fun, scary! Creatures are amazing! You can see Guerilmo del Torro’s influence! Hope they make a sequel
MushaAleste - Bruh
I like it.
debilsbabygirl - Loved it
I loved it! I’m a horror freak so this really got my bones chilled which is EXACTLY what I want in a horror movie!
bsdjunkie - A Keeper!
This was surprisingly good! One of the best horror movies I've seen in a while! Had to re-watch it at lest once and will probably re-watch for years to come.
AMJ33 - Better than most
I appreciated this little horror flick. I think someone put more heart and soul into it than say your garbage horror films that either play it safe, depend on too much gore, or are simply lacking in the essentials. That is not to say this movie doesnt have faults- it does... but they can be easily overlooked.
Lolminhozq - Decent at best
The story is very cliche and it isn’t scary at all.
MORTUUS666 - Boring
Was hoping it was good even though it was of 13 I usually watch with a open mind but I didn’t like it at all
JasminGallegos - Good Movie.
I didn’t think I would enjoy it but I was wrong I really enjoyed it!
Bfbx21 - Entertaining
tenyten - Great monsters
Love the monsters
Mswally505 - So disappointing, SKIP!!!
Am I the only one who was bored the entire movie?!? I’ve been in excited for this movie for a while and didn’t get to see it in the theaters. Boy am I glad that I didn’t spend the money. This is comparable to Goosebumps or something on Nickelodeon or Disney but less scary. I think we didn’t get enough buildup, I didn’t connect with the characters whatsoever. I felt like the acting was immature and not strong enough for a feature film. For a tv or kids movie maybe but not good enough in my opinion for this. I was so not impressed. I kept waiting for it to grab me... still waiting. And they’re setting up a sequel?! Maybe I have to start lowering my standards for horror movies lately because I’ve been so disappointed this year... 😐
dpb11201 - stop trying to be goosebumps
If it isnt goosebumps I dont wanna see kids in horror movies. 99.9% of the time its terrible. LOVED the books as a kid but I dont recall the kids from stranger things and the civil rights movment in them.
Robbie4nin - Awesome horror flick
For a Pg-13 movie this is pretty awesome! Reminds me of the good horror films of the 1980’s where practical effects were the main special effects used. I highly recommend this to fans of the books or 80’s horror movies. 🍿
Sha benzo - Best movie ever
A million stars if I could
Sureshots815 - Almost perfect.
The author would have liked this i think. Oscar worth detail to the stories. Worth watchimg once .Not scary as an adult but kid friendly and enjoyable to those that read the books.
AppDevDude - So Dorky
devo96 - i't s good...but...
This is definitely for a younger crowd. It is well done but not scary at all.
Travisbrian85 - Good but not scary
I would give this movie like 2 steps up from goosebumps. It’s gory which I think gives it the steps up from family movie. Not horrible. But not what I thought it was gonna be. I will probably let my 9 year old watch it lol.
GiveMeAllTheMovies - Best to be a fan of the book.
There certianly are creepy moments throughout the film. Suppose this is aimed at more of a tween, or nostalgic audience. Gets sappy towards the end, with too much exposition. It's fun, creepy, but pretty light.
mcorbin12334 - Not the movie in the description
I see others reviewing this as a great horror movie, but when me and my husband watched it, it was nothing but a documentary. How are two separate movies linked to the same name? This makes no sense and we have no way of getting our money back.
rjpan1985 - Great Halloween Fun! Classic Scare!
Really enjoyed the movie! Creepy and just enough scare!
Brings back childhood camp out ghost stories!!!
aguywithcats - made for Nickelodeon
I wanted to like this movie, and purchased it based on the 79% Rotten Tomatoes rating. It's a well photographed and acted movie, but honestly it has to be meant for kids. The creatures are interesting but despite this there are zero real scares.
parkersjones - Great Film Terrible Picture Quality
We loved the film. Bought on iTunes. Picture quality in every dark scene is terrible - totally covered in a blue tint. hope they fix it.

Coldwoods - Amazing CGI and Creature, Scary
Wow, this is a great horror movie. I can see this movie being the annaul Halloween movie to watch every year. The cgi and creatures were so scary. I never seen anything like this in a movie before. The young actors did great. There are some terrifing scenes. Interesting story. With Del Toro I knew it would be excellent. I know the movie is from a book but I hope this crew make another one. Highly reccomend if you like horror.
Alx78 - Lame
The main story I liked, but the endings to each story were lame, disappointing, and boring..
Lkjhgfs - Weak
Not a bad movie but just not scary. It was like goosebumps for adults.
eliza.fro. - Rental Ripoff!
Be careful if renting through AppleTV! This is NOT the movie. It’s only a documentary about the origin of the story. Buyer beware. It’s not available for rental until Nov 5th; this info is not included on the AppleTV listing.
Bodypuzzle - WHAT THE F---?
On Apple TV, this links to some stupid documentary by the same name. How the hell do I get my money back?
poshbarb - More Like Goosebumps Scary
I didn’t think it was that scary.
lilly (/)/):$/) - To great
I love this movie it was great I loved the pale lady and the red spot I brought my son
billjohn - This is not a good horror movie.
Paint by numbers...at best.
FourUnderFour - 🤯🤯🤯
Great horror movie! Definitely goes on my Top 5 horror movies! This is as good as all three IT movies! This has amazing stories! I Rank the story’s as: 1. The Dream 2. Me Ty Doughty Water 3. Harold 4. The Haunted House 5. The Big Toe
GraceHewitt4849 - The best movie I’ve seen all year
I read all the books in middle school and when I heard that they where making a movie I was pumped but I thought it was going to be bad, but I was far from that I loved it so much. I’ve seen it 3 times already
cash turner - best movie all year.
This is a very great movie it is one of the best movies of all.I got very scared of the big toe.
CPT_Freedom - Didn’t Care For It
What can I say this just seemed like a timid version of what is should have been. Creature effects were great, but overall sucked and don’t feel the need to ever watch it again. Just my opinion.
apollo :P - By Apollo
So ok when I watched the red spot part HOLY CRACKERS MOLY POLY WHEN ALL THE SPIDERS WERE GONE THERE ON HER CHEEK was a gap of a alice in wonderland rabbit hole I wondered where was the blood but great movie 10/10
0mgcholesterol - Great
One of the best horror movies all year
jimmy😀☺️ - The best
This movie brought movies when I was young I loved the books but when I found out they were doing a movie I was excited. I loved the movie and it brought everything from the books to life it was beautiful.
Cookie monsta plur - A true cinematic masterpiece.
This movie is honestly amazing. Even me, someone who is scared of everyone, loved this movie. The fact that they actually recreated the monsters rather than using CGI is mind blowing. 10/10. Great everything.
Superhero145 - Great Halloween horror flick that needs a sequel
Omg this was so awesome and scary definitely made me jump a couple times but I would re watch this around Halloween time and I hope they make a sequel we need questions answered I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a good scare you won’t be disappointed must buy!!!!!
A+ Watermelon - What are all these positive reviews? It was all jump scares and forced teenage romance.
This movie is litterally only jump scares... Such a let down.. The source material is horrifying and they gave us a PG-13 kid movie makeout flick. All these positive reviews must be from simpletons who would have a panic attack If they watched a real horror movie like Hereditary or The Lodge. Unbelievable...
weetsrevenge - It’s worth your $$
I really enjoyed this and thought it was scary! This was very well done IMO
Bruce Lectro - Gigantic Facepalm
This movie... this movie was absolutely terrible. It was boring, insanely predictable, very generic and not even remotely SCARY. It relies mostly on very dumb jumpscares, which are painfully predictable. The storyline was very bad, just take Goosebumps (I liked goosebumps though) and mix it with Final Destination and you have this movie. The characters were basically cardboard cutouts and you don’t FEEL anything for them. As I already said, this movie is not scary. The monster designs are so dull... and the zombie man just made me laugh uncontrollably. And I’m sure that it was not supposed to do that. This movie was SUPER boring, because the "tension" scenes are way too predictable. EVERYTHING IN THIS DANG MOVIE IS PREDICTABLE. Seriously, in the first 5 minutes of the movie I knew exactly what would happen. In conclusion, this is the second WORST movie I’ve ever seen. As I writer, I’m offended by this useless piece of garbage. Don’t waste your money on this.
Korbin Weese - For teens only
Anony 159 - it’s great
i wouldn’t say it’s so scary though
Awesomeness131 - Awesome
This movie has a couple jump scares and scary the movie is amazing
N_Oteroo - Bad CGI
Worth the watch ! Good story story line ! The graphics of the monsters looked fake...
jryseinfld - Excellent
Great film with palpable suspense and perfect cinematography. Can’t wait for it on iTunes Hopefully it’ll be 4K
kingk005 - Unexpected
This is to good for a PG13 horror novie.
drewari - Great Film!
I find it truly amazing that real actors were used to create the creatures in these films rather than all CGI. An amazing performance done by all!
Tbird916 - No words to how good this is
This is the best horror movie I’ve seen this year. I hope it wins the Oscar for best creature design.
Darth Diggler - A seriously great horror movie. I loved it.
The Hageman Brothers and Del Toro absolutely nailed this. It’s one of the best horror films I’ve seen in years, yes with the a PG-13 rating. I was skeptical that the format of this book series could translate into a feature film but it works so well. It really comes down to a winning combination of relatable characters, legitimately scary imagery, and how well the original drawings were adapted to the screen. Lots of nightmare fuel in this movie. There are a lot of similarities to IT, except in this film the victims don’t manage narrow escapes. Recommended.
