Definitely worth a rentThis movie does a good job of unfolding errie tension and visuals. I think the actress does a great job of protraying someone locked into an unusual situation of survival. The creature is great 95% of the time... there are moments it looks inconsistent or odd in terms of execution but it is impressive. If youre a fan of monster movies this is a grade above the low budget ones. Someone definitely cared when crafting this movie for an audience..Score: 4/5

4.5 stars | Simple premise, excellent HorrorThoroughly enjoyed this screenwriter’s commitment to keeping this a very minimalistic genre film. The film essentially begins in Act Two - and the scenes that do offer some context, exposition, or background for our main protagonist never ruin the tension & dread that is established very early and only amplifies with every sunset into darkness on this little island. Say what you will about the small budget, unknown cast, or the VFX on the amphibious Eldritch predator — but the film has a consistent tone and it never even pretends to sell you anything it can’t deliver. (Ex: the monster being nocturnal and pretty much only seen from a distance stalking in shadows or lurking in the depths of dark water is FINE, I would’ve been very upset if it turned into the kind of cheese only Roger Corman movies go after). Perhaps what’s most remarkable is the screenwriter’s ability to basically take the set up of “Cast Away,” but cut 2 hours out of the run time and substitute Wilson the volleyball for a Lovecraftian creature from a netherworld who is determined to eat all of the humans in the camera’s frame, you know? The fact that they were able to successfully dovetail character backstory into visual metaphor left me punching the air several times. This character isn’t stupid, she’s never unreasonable, and she is believably able to process the fact that her situation of “being stranded on an island after a shipwreck all alone” has gotten infinitely worse as now there is a creature from an underwater hellmouth that has decided she’s next on the menu. It’s a ridiculously fun — and short — watch. Sharpen some sticks and grab a bucket of chum, Jaws style. Enjoy..Score: 5/5
