Set against the backdrop of 1950s New York, “Motherless Brooklyn” follows Lionel Essrog (Edward Norton), a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette's Syndrome, as he ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna (Bruce Willis). Armed only with a few clues and the powerful engine of his obsessive mind, Lionel unravels closely-guarded secrets that hold the fate of the whole city in the balance. In a mystery that carries him from gin-soaked jazz clubs in Harlem to the hard-edged slums of Brooklyn and, finally, into the gilded halls of New York's power brokers, Lionel contends with thugs, corruption and the most dangerous man in the city to honor his friend and save the woman who might be his own salvation.

Motherless BrooklynBland but flawlessly fantastic Edward Norton plays a private detective with tourette syndrome and whenever he talks its amazing. But there is a point were this movie is like a Martin Scorsese movie kinda Mean Streets and Taxi Driver at the same time into pieces of descent. Pure GeniusThis movie is an instant treasure. It highlights the mentality of people who will destroy others for what only their chosen, racist group calls, “progress.” And it is sublime in its highlighting of the tribe which the main antagonist proudly calls himself a member of, with all of the despair and corruption that they leave discarded in their path to “leave the world better than they found it.”
While it seems for millennia never asking all of the unchosen mass of humanity, who wishes nothing to do with them, but who are endlessly abused by the likes of the main antagonists corrupt, immoral, vicious, greedy, and down right Neanderthal like ways of the tribe he represents as their zenith. Edward Norton is a genius, and Mr. Baldwin’s portrayal of his character is unforgettable. This movie conveys messages that parallel the Harvey Weinstein #metoo hollywood filth story raping everyone that moves (from women and men to young children) scandal, the Donald Trump Presidency ripe with the state level corruption of this same group that Baldwin represents in his character here and on SNL and that we see manifest in our nation through AIPAC and other subversive anti American organizations.

Mesmerizing!I took a chance purchasing this movie. After watching the preview, it looked interesting enough to get it. Watching in the beginning kept my attention, especially watching Bruce Willis and Edward Norton bantering. It was comical! I mean I laughed! Not at him, but at the way he portrayed the character and the words used due to his condition (no spoiler alerts). Hats of to Edward Norton’s excellent directing! This is one movie that is worth watching, and you will watch it again and again; that’s how good it is! I did not want it too end. I became so immersed in it, the 50’s, Brooklyn where I grew up, the buildings, the lifestyle, etc. Five stars plus for me. I loved it and I think you will too!.KnowsclassicScore: 5/5
