Zu Zeiten des Zweiten Weltkriegs wird sie dort von Radio Berlin angestellt und präsentiert Schallplatten, musikalische Darbietungen und verliest Botschaften, die viele als Verrat bezeichnen, weil es sich dabei eben auch um Nazi-Propaganda handelt. Von den amerikanischen Soldaten, die sie gleichermaßen liebten wie hassten, wurde Mildred nur „Axis Sally“ genannt – die Stimme hinter der Propaganda des Dritten Reichs. Nach Kriegsende vor Gericht gestellt, beteuert die einstige Schauspielerin, dass sie nur eine Darstellerin zur falschen Zeit am falschen Ort gewesen sei und gegen ihren Willen zur Loyalität gegenüber Nazi-Deutschland gezwungen wurde. In Washington D.C. wird ihr deswegen der Prozess wegen Hochverrats gemacht.
