Watch this movie1. If you’re new to the Saw movies you picked a good spot to come aboard. Welcome. If you’re a diehard fan you’ve probably already seen this movie. 2. The critiques of Chris Rock may be correct but if the sequel goes in the direction I think it will then Chris nailed it. The casting of chris in this role may be intentional in that his performance seems like he’s not right for the part and this movie is just a setup to what he is supposed to be in the sequel. I could be wrong. Either way Chris is the man and if there is any fault it would be with casting not the actor. 3. Yes, the twist is different than the conventional Saw movie but it still works because I can’t wait for the sequel. Remember different does not equal bad. The major reason I like the saw franchise is very much in this movie. 4. 4 star movie. 5 if the sequel goes in the direction where I think it will..Score: 4/5
Worst Saw Movie (And That is Saying Something)From the horrible acting to lazy storytelling this is a film that should be ashamed to call a Saw movie and I by no means defend any of the originals (except the first film by James Wan) as they are all pretty terrible films but this is like a direct to video ripoff of the Saw films with Chris Rock being held against his will until he completes filming. Just watch Fargo Season 4 if you want to see him actually try..Score: 1/5
Not bad, but nowhere near what it could’ve beenFirst, let me just say that the political aspect is so poorly written that it isn’t anti-cop. The cops in this movie are one-sided bad guys with no other character development solely so they get killed off with no remorse. It isn’t “woke” and even if it tries to be, no one would side with the cops in this. People who are pro-police would say, “These are the people who make all cops look bad. They get what they deserve.” The ACAB crowd would love this, however. The traps in this movie are great. Much much much much much better than Jigsaw’s traps. My favorite is the finger trap. They could’ve used one or two more as the movie goes a bit between the first and second trap, but the story is generally fun to watch even if it’s poorly written. This plays like a poor imitation of Se7en at its worst. There is a great movie here, but the way it glosses over the police brutality and lacks any sort of depth so it can get to the trap scenes prevent it. The mystery is a whodunnit that is EXTREMELY predictable, and the killer reveal is not even a big reveal but plays as more of a “yeah, it’s this person.” Regardless, there’s a lot of fun to be had and the traps keep you hooked. Not the best entry in the franchise, but miles and miles ahead of Jigsaw and Saw 3D. The best since Saw VI..Score: 3/5
