OverhypedThis is redone just to squeeze money out of consumers. It suffers from severe bloat and part one is 2.5 hours long. The original was a better rendition told in a compact manner. Not worth the $..RWH3675Score: 1/5

How hard is it?Why an interpretation? Director and writer added so much unnecessary and left out needed details with a lot of other things. If you haven’t read the books you’ll likely have a super hard time figuring out what’s going on. Many of the actor choices were clearly made for popularity not their ability. Tim is a very bland Paul, Rebecca as Jessica is very much a so what, Oscar as Duke Leto is another so what. Jason as Duncan, who cares, he smiles, snarls and dies. Gurney was probably the best cast, same with Baron, Rabban’s actor was pointless. Just so much “why” involved. The second movie should be canned until a capable director and writer/s can tackle it, without fluff or skipping about. Visually it’s great looking, content wise, awful, the best version remains the 2000 Sci Fi Channel mini series, flaws and all..MythSmasherScore: 1/5

The new variants seem to get progressively worseUnderstanding that the current target audience is significantly younger than those who saw the original Dune, I can understand why these "newer" versions become less thought-provoking. The original Dune required a lot of deep thinking, basically requiring the viewers to immerse theselves into the characters and political environment of the storyline to understand. This newer version is the difference between eating a plate full of vareital pleasures and having a jar of Gerber's Baby Food. There is a complete loss of sophistication and there is little thought required. Breaking it up into two parts (or who knows, three potentially) just loses continuity of the storyline, which I believe does Herbert's work a great disservice. Best Remake Yet.Having read the books and listened to the audiobook versions over and over. I'm not saddened by all the cuts and omissions from novel to movie. DV has put his own ideas into this version of Dune and he's totally nailed an awesome movie experience. Can't wait for part 2 and if possible Dune 2 - War of the Empires..FelixB79Score: 5/5

Pretty and ploddingSpectacular visual effects. Plodding narrative, clumsy character setup. Shockingly unsophisticated pacing. Questionable art direction. Unexpectedly, this is actually an opera with portentious synthesizer music overpowering every moment: there's a total of only six minutes in the entire movie where actors carry the scene without a symphonic drone to blur their performance. It's inconsistent, as if Denis Villeneuve's production team each had their own vision and he cobbled it together. A must-see only for fans of the book; if you haven't read it, don't bother with this film until it's a 99¢ rental..GaryGeeScore: 1/5

OMG, the visuals.....they are amazing! Definitely a movie worth watching in 3D on a big screen. The ending was rather abrupt, but second part should cover that.
