Jodie Comer gives a stunning performance in this thought-provoking drama set against the brutality of 14th century France from visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott. Horrible movieI’m genuinely not being to harsh when I say this is a horrible movie. I had low expectations and literally had to stop and start this movie NINE times just to get through it (having been foolish and purchased it). Brutal. Boring. Slow. Matt Damon ha truly lost all (all) of his acting ability.
Do not underestimate how horrible this film is.

The facts are straight-forward enough, but it is the subtle differences of intent between the three versions of the story as told by the main protagonists in three acts, that make this film complex and riveting throughout its two and a half hour length.
It’s reminiscent of Akira Kurosawa’s (SEVEN SAMURAI, YOJIMBO, RAN, DERSU USALA), RASHOMON (1950), which is also about different versions of a noblewoman’s violation.
Strong performances by all, especially Jodie Comer, who, against horrendous possible consequences to herself, makes a stand for the truth. A woman standing up to injustice in a male oriented society is laudable in the present; unheard of in 1386!
Mesmerizing action sequences, and the best climactic duel with medieval weaponry ever committed to film; EL CID (1961) with its exciting jousts and broadsword duels notwithstanding! Beautiful musical score.
