5 starsThis is an incredible and unique look at the life of Brian Wilson. If you’re familiar with Brian’s story there won’t be any revelatory information in this doc, however the way it is presented is very unique to any other BW documentary. Much of the film is spent with Brian and Jason Fine driving around in a car - while that may seem boring, all of Brian’s emotions are on full display: from sadness to hilarity, to Brian’s anxiety. Not a dull moment and it’s a very touching and well done doc..Score: 5/5

InspirationalLong Promised Road is an intimate look at Brian Wilson’s musical genius as well as his often troubled life. He rides, talks and listens to music with Jason Fine (of Rolling Stone) as they go around L.A. by car. Their conversations feel so unscripted. All of Brian’s answers/emotional reactions seem very real and honest. His personal struggles are laid out in the open. In the end, however, we can find that through life’s pain there is hope and meaning to be found..Score: 5/5
Surprisingly upliftingI’ll never look at The Beach Boys the same way again. This is a poignant, heart-wrenching, beautiful documentary of a most talented survivor. Surprisingly unsuperficial look into the amazing, very human Brian Wilson, the backbone of a most American music group whose sweet sounds should never cease to astound, that their simple-complex songs should evoke an array of emotions especially sheer unaldterated joy.
