Experience C.S. Lewis’ profound journey from vigorous debunker of Christianity to become, as he said, “the most reluctant convert in all England.” Through Max McLean’s detailed and masterful performance, Lewis' story of grief, loss and redemption comes to life on screen in his own magnificent words. Filmed in and around Oxford, England, featuring Nicholas Ralph (All Creatures Great and Small) and directed by double BAFTA winner Norman Stone (BBC's Shadowlands). An international hit film!
A journey through C.S. Lewis’ early life and his dramatic conversion story about his inner conflict.

Could have been better…not a very engaging movie, about an incredibly engaging individual..Score: 3/5
The “book” would’ve been betterI suppose it’s a matter of taste, but I found this an unnecessary movie: Mainly images to look at while the exposition carried on. The exposition itself—C.S. Lewis recounting details of his formative years as written in _Surprised By Joy_ and other books—is interesting enough because Lewis’ story is interesting. But (and here I start to nitpick) the always urgent soundtrack and the constantly panning busy backgrounds as Max McLean walked from scene to scene talking at us was extremely distracting to me. I suppose it’s meant to be as if we are walking around with Lewis as he goes about his day, too busy to spare us the time to settle in across the table and just converse with us for an hour or two. Not very welcoming, that. Then, back to the soundtrack: Rather than fading into the background like good background music does as you visit with a friend, chords buzzed the conversation around like a pesky fly. I’d much rather just sit down and read quietly. Or listen to an audiobook or podcast while driving. Or anything but sit still and try to listen to this lecture which interrupted the movie or watch the movie which interrupted the lecture. All props to McLean for a fine performance I suppose (but didn’t Lewis have an Irish accent, not a British one?). Unfortunately, for me, this film felt gratuitously gimmicky rather than artistically fresh. Perhaps all that changes after the first act… but 20 minutes the “Introduction” and it seemed as if it would be this for the whole movie, and I had to stop. The telling stood in the way of showing..Score: 3/5
New and differentI highly enjoyed it! Very innovative and very original with the very beginning and very end! I’m hoping a sequel will be made to show his writing career that tied in with his faith and of him housing kids during world war too. I would also like to see his relationship more with the Barfields..Score: 5/5
Enjoyable movieIt was a very clever way to basically turn the documentary into a movie. Very enjoyable and interesting learning about his life and his journey into faith..Score: 5/5
