Tom Berenger (Shoot to Kill, Shattered) is Lewis Gates, a bounty hunter haunted by the past, hired to track down three escaped convicts in the Oxbow region of the Rockies. Their trail leads him to a secluded spot and signs of a struggle, but no bodies—only a strange arrow shaft remains. Gates takes the arrow to an expert in Native American culture, Lillian Sloan (Barbara Hershey, Hoosiers, The Public Eye), and together they set off in search of an impossible mystery —- a tribe they believe cannot exist, massacred over 100 years ago. What they discover deep in the Oxbow may prove an answer to both Lillian’s dreams and Lewis’s nightmares. But for now, it’s a desperate race against time if they are to save the last of the Dogmen from the destructive forces of the modern world. Tab Murphy (Gorillas in the Mist, Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tarzan) wrote and made his directorial debut with this beautifully photographed modern-day western filled with romance, adventure and Native American folklore. Co-starring Kurtwood Smith (RoboCop) and Steve Reevis (Dances with Wolves).

It’s finally out, with one downside(not the Wilford Brimley version)This is not the version most people know and love. It’s the one without any narration especially the one without wilford brimley. Which really sets the tone and feel of the first 30 seasons of the movie. Hopefully the outcry will be heard and we can finally not only get the digital version of the last of the dogmen, but the best version of it too..Score: 4/5

Finally it’s been released, but where’s The Narrative Wilford Brimley???I can’t believe iTunes finally released this movie “Last of the Dogmen” , This is one of my most favorite movies of all time & I’ve been waiting forever and when it finally gets released it’s missing the most important part, The Narration by Wilford Brimley. Even the VHS & DVD which I own has the narration in it unlike this version of the movie from iTunes. Not happy about it and why I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5..Score: 4/5

Original Version**SPOILER ALERT** I first saw this movie when it was released on HBO in the mid 1990s. There was no narration or happily ever after ending. I loved the story just as it was. I bought the movie on VHS (I believe) the moment it came out. When DVDs were the current format I decided to upgrade my copy. The DVD had the version most people are familiar with. Narration had been added and the ending of the move had changed. Nothing against the actor who narrated, but I hated it. I found the narration unnecessary and a distraction. The revised ending ruined the appeal of a non traditional ending. My VHS copy went missing long ago so I’ve been hoping for decades (literally) that the director’s preferred cut would be released some day. I’m ever so happy to own the original version again! I hope that if iTunes complies with the demands that the movie be “fixed,” that they provide an option for the director’s original cut or the narrated happily ever after version..Score: 5/5
Missing narrationThe version of this movie with Wilfred Brimley is much, much, much better. This version is like it is missing half of the storyline.
