Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic...a creature of reason. While in Istanbul, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. At first, she doubts that he is real and she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. But the Djinn pleads his case, and eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both!

A solitary scholar discovers an ancient bottle while on a trip to Istanbul and unleashes a djinn who offers her three wishes. Filled with reluctance, she is unable to come up with one, so the djinn tries to inspire her with his stories.

Understated Tale of LoveI wanted to watch this movie based on the trailers; and based on the trailers, I presumed this to be a fun story. Nope. It took us on a quiet journey of love & sadness. It was a tale carefully loomed. It was beautiful, but not in the typical, youthful way; it was stunning in the sense of beau geste. And there was magic, but one that was visceral and not seen. It gave us pause. The music was enchanting - so much so that I purchased the soundtrack and play if often during my commute. It removes stress and puts me in a contemplative and mindful gratitude. Český Akademicky vzdělaná doktorka Alithea Binnie s tváří Tildy Swinton vede svůj život osaměle se striktně racionálním přístupem. Na svých cestách se ale v Istanbulu střetne s kouzelným džinem z lahve, kterého hraje Idris Elba. Výměnou za svou svobodu jí džin nabídne splnit tři přání. Neodolatelná nabídka má ale háček. Doktorka je zběhlá v mytologii a moc dobře ví, že s džinem není radno si zahrávat bez následků a že takto splněná přání se často zvrtnou a obrátí proti tomu, kdo po nich toužil. Džin jí začne vyprávět fantastické příběhy ze své historie a historie lidí. Nakonec se doktorka nechá zlákat a vysloví přání, které oba dva překvapí.

Nie ma wygórowanych wymagań wobec świata, do którego podchodzi z dużą dawką sceptycyzmu. W życiu kieruje się zaś zdrowym rozsądkiem, zamiast ulegać porywom uczuć. Mimo tego, a może właśnie dlatego, pewnego dnia w jej życiu pojawia się najprawdziwszy dżin, który w zamian za swą wolność, oferuje jej spełnienie trzech życzeń. Problem w tym, że Alithea zawodowo zajmuje się analizowaniem starożytnych podań i baśni i ma pełną świadomość, że takie igraszki z losem mogą się bardzo źle skończyć. Dżin jednak nie daje za wygraną. Aby zachęcić ją do wypowiedzenia życzenia opowiada jej niesłychane historie ze swojej przeszłości. W końcu Alithea decyduje się wypowiedzieć życzenie, które zaskoczy zarówno dżina jak i ją samą.

Prvič dvomi, da je resničen in drugič, ker je poznavalka zgodb in mitologije, pozna vse svarilne zgodbe o izpolnjenih željah.
