Margot and Tyler (Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult), a young couple, travel to an elite, remote, coastal island in order to dine at an exclusive restaurant where a mysterious chef (Ralph Fiennes) has prepared a lavish, expensive menu. But it soon becomes clear that the pretentious, pampered dinner guests are about to be served some shocking surprises. Consumerism takes on a hilariously scary meaning in this dark comedy that features Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, Judith Light and John Leguizamo in an all-star ensemble cast. The Menu is directed by Mark Mylod, with a screenplay by Seth Reiss & Will Tracy.

A Good, Original Story and FunnyThis was a unique type of movie with suspense and comedy. I think it’s important to support these films because there’s so few that come out now. Everything is Marvel or a remake..Score: 5/5
Terrible (PLEASE READ)This movie was straight out of a wattpad fic. It was directed terribly and could be considered a comedy rather than a horror/thriller. The script was laughable and could not be taken seriously. Please do not watch if you don’t want to waste your time. There are definitely better movies out there, for example,“Avatar: The Way of Water.”.Score: 1/5

SUICIDE WARNINGI’ve seen a lot of messed up movies but there was no specific warning that a character was going to take his life so graphically and suddenly that I couldn’t breath and had a panic attack. This was absolutely not necessary and very inconsiderate to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. Gore is fine, messed up humor, whatever this movie is supposed to be but please add a warning. Great film with caveatsI saw “The Menu” as it premiered on HBO Max. I enjoyed it for what it was but found certain aspects of the film grating. Every actor did a phenomenal job. I’ve read a lot of comments pertaining to Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes, but to be honest I think Nicholas Hoult, John Leguizamo, and Hong Chau were particularly intriguing to watch. Unfortunately, the pacing towards the end of the film started to wear me out and I’m also not a fan of bait-and-switch characters. Throughout the majority of the film Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) is quite insufferable. She is the most displeasing character on screen. And, her presence forcibly overshadows the other characters as if to say “you must root for her. This person right here.” But, there were no positive qualities she possessed. I felt others deserved more attention, yet ended on the sideline throughout the story. This is a heavily thematic film and thankfully (for those concerned) I didn’t find any agenda-pushing. I’m steering clear of plot because the trailer is misleading and I’d like for viewers to be pleasantly surprised by a unique mixture of black comedy, horror, and drama. I would like to be clear that this is not a slasher movie. Additionally, I felt the language was inorganic. Most of the time it felt forced, especially for a setting at a prestigious establishment during an exclusive regal event. I’m not sure why it’s become a trend to stuff a script with intense language but we have it here. I think most will be pleasantly surprised by this movie. It’s certainly divisive in a way, but the film is original and refreshing..Score: 4/5
Not Sure What the Critics Saw….My girlfriend and I had seen the trailer almost too many times and were so stoked to see this movie when it finally released. Unfortunately, for us, it floundered the entire time. There are some funny moments, but it’s not a comedy (although looking at the writers and producers, I think they thought it was a comedy). There were some thrilling moments, but it’s not a thriller. There are some scary moments, but it’s not a horror film. It felt like it tried to be too many things to actually be great at any of them, and we were so disappointed. If you’re into the trailer, you might find it worth a rental, but I would recommend skipping this one. Bummer, because the cast is excellent. Lastly *SPOILER*, I just wish they’d given a little more into why the rest of the staff were willing to end it all. Without knowing that, it just all felt like one big plot hole..Score: 2/5
