Where myth meets history. Where legend meets reality. The roads cross at San Antonio de Bexar and the small, ruined mission there: the Alamo. In the spring of 1836, nearly 200 Texans - men of all races who believed in the future of Texas - held the fort for 13 days under siege by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, ruler of Mexico and commander of its forces. Led by three men - the young, brash Col. William Travis; the violent, passionate James Bowie; and the larger than-life living legend David Crockett - the Texans and their deeds at the Alamo would pass into history as General Sam Houston's rallying cry for Texas independence and into legend for their symbolic significance. Historical action western detailing the 1835-36 Texas revolution before, during, and after the famous siege of the Alamo (February 23-March 6, 1836) where 183 Texans (American-born Texans) and Tejanos (Mexican-born Texans) commanded by Colonel Travis, along with Davey Crockett and Jim Bowie, were besieged in an abandoned mission outside San Antonio by a Mexican army of nearly 2,000 men under the personal command of the dictator of Mexico, General Santa Anna, as well as detailing the battle of San Jacinto (April 21, 1836) where General Sam Houston's rag-tag army of Texans took on and defeated Santa Anna's army leading to the independence of Texas. "The Alamo" retells the events surrounding that battle from multiple perspectives on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border. John Lee Hancock (The Rookie) directs a cast that includes Patrick Wilson (Lt. Col. William Travis), Jason Patric (James Bowie), Billy Bob Thornton (David Crockett), and Dennis Quaid (Gen. Sam Houston).

One Word: WOWDo not listen to the reviews from the "top critics." They will tell you they want a certain type of movie and when pure brilliance is before their eyes they bash it. When I think of my favorite books or favorite songs, I often have a debate going through my mind. When it comes to movies though, this is by far the best. The acting is superb despite what they say, the music is beautifully eerie, and the scenery is just superb. The script is almost poetic and many things are taken right from the historical documents, as a historical fiction piece should be. This movie never gets old..Score: 5/5

The old tired defense of the MexicansAmerica stole Texas from Mexico. Well, guess what. Mexico stole it from Spain and Spain stole Mexico from the Native Americans. It's how the rise and fall of civilizations works. Santa Anna disbanded the constitution of 1824 that the Federalists in Mexico had supported his revolution in 1833 in order to restore. He did some good things for Texas between 1833 and 1835 but then he imprisoned Austin with no trial and set out on a course for vengence against Texas. Not all the Mexicans agreed with him and that is shown in the movie. His officers were not happy with his no quarter policy, and that is highlighted well in the movie. Nice try though. Most historically accurate depiction of the battle and the ensuing conflict. Not perfect, but closer that John Wayne got (even though I love the Duke)..Score: 4/5

A-may-zingThis is an incredible movie about how texas became a free. however, if you dont like texas or dont know about its history, you may not like it. some people dont really get it because, come on, the texans lost the alamo. why make a movie about them losing a battle. but because of thier loss, other texans had the will-power to defeat mexico in san jacinto (my spelling is terrible). but for those of you how love texas and understand history, this movie is deffintly something worth buying..Score: 5/5
