I have no idea how this guaranteed bomb was ever made. It is pointless. How did anyone pitch this thing? Hey Bill â why doncha head back to Walker Brothers and snort some syrup? Whatever comes out of your nose after that, it would certainly be better than this. This film can be best described by a two-word statement by Murray at 1:28:30.

If you lack the capacity to enjoy anything other than a Michael Bay film, however, you won't like it.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is yet another clone of Wes Anderson's familar films. Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Darjeeling Limited are too much similar in too many ways becoming annoying. I have heard too many people quote one movie and think it was from another. Surprise Bill Murray is the Starring role in another Anderson flick. Wes Anderson get too comfortable with casting and keeps them in his pocket to use like pocket change. When you keep casting the Wilson brothers, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Anjelica Huston you are going to have a certain level of success due to the starring cast alone. Personally I think Wes Anderson is a shallow director who has found a safe niche of popular modern films. Absolutley no creative juices running through his veins what-so-ever. But hey keep on pumping out those clones and making the money.

I dont know what it is but theres something about this movie that keeps me watching it over and over and over. If you havent seen this movie and you have money than u gotta buy it. Emma St. Lakenpalmer - Don't shoot him, he's an unpaid intern!Steve "Stevesy" Zizou appears to be a thoroughly nasty piece of work. He is in fact, one of the most soulful protagonists since Gatsby. In this surrealist masterwork, part homage to the work of Jacques Coustea, part metaphysical exploration of man's relationship with the sea, and part slapstick comedy, we follow an oddball band of losers and outsiders in an exploration for some shark or something. The plot is not the point here. Profundity combines with sadness combines with slapstick. What's not to like?

Simark21 - Very bad quality!!!We purchased this film a few days ago and were utterly disappointed at the quality of the movie iTunes put up for sale and rent. This is such a fantastic film and yet its quality is one of the worst we've come across. I wish I had read the reviews prior to purchasing it. We could not even watch a minute of the film.
If you are thinking of renting or buying this DO NOT until iTunes replace it with a high quality version. It is without doubt dubbed from VHS. As such, both the sound and the picture quality are extremely poor. If you are watching this film for the first time in such bad quality you will never appreciate how great this movie is and what you are missing.
All the above said, I wrote to iTunes immediately after turning the film off and they have been most professional about it. They have refunded me the 6.99 GBP I spent and have submitted it for investigation, saying they take the quality of items offered on the iTunes store seriously. Fingers crossed they remove this version soon and replace it with a good quality one.
0 stars for the poor quality of this movie. 5 stars for the actual movie.

Kasey1422 - The Best Movie By The Best Director!Wes Anderson started his career with Bottle Rocket written by Owen Wilson and himself, he then made Rushmore (which needs to be on iTunes) that put him on the map, next we saw his artistic touch on film with the Royal Tenenbaums, now we have The Life Aquatic, a mezmorizing, beautifully acted, and smart comedy which was co-written by noah baumbach (Kicking And Screaming/The Squid And The Whale/Margot At The Wedding) and features big names with smart roles. Anderson stays true to his writing by giving every character and flaw and something to love about them at the same time. He is definately a one of a kind artist and is the best the i will see in my lifetime.

Wes Anderson has been criticized for cramming too many idiosyncratically unique characters in one place in an pretentious attempt to be comical, but that attack does not stand up when this film is viewed as it is meant to be: as a lighthearted drama, not a knee-slapping laugh-fest.

It's subtly funny, filmed very nicely & interestingly, has another one of Wes's (how do you pluralize that?) impressive ensemble casts that i love so much, & isn't overdone, on the actors' part. The quirky soundtrack to it was also quite enjoyable, & contributed greatly to the "aquaticity" of the movie, as i like to call it. If you like Wes, buy it. If you just don't like his style, this probably isn't for you. Bill Murray does a really convincingly good job of playing a butthole, too. Most of the time you just want to slap him. In the end, however, everything balances out. I especially enjoyed Jeff Goldblum & Willem Dafoe in this film; mainly for the humor they brought to it.

I am very dissappointed in apple. i will never purchase another movie through itunes, spend $5 more and get it on DVD... much better than paying $15 for vhs quality...

Nuclear Pancakes! - Short Review...Depressing, semi-funny, lot of style, interesting premise, failure on delivery. All of these critiques fit perfectly within the realm of this film. This film goes from funny to depressing, depressing to dramatic, dramatic to funny, funny to suspenseful. This movie has all of its tones confused, and is lost on the highway of emotion. What are we suppose to be feeling, Anderson? Trust me, this is not a film you watch on a rainy day. No, this is a film you watch on a bright and shinny Sunday afternoon, with nothing on TV, and nothing to do. That way, if you've had better things happen to you that day, you won't be depressed when you see this film. Take a Xanex after viewing this, or a Zoloft.
iSam? - 5 stars all the wayone of the funniest and most genius movies ever made. the movie's comedy is completely dry but perfect in every way, especially if that is your kind of movie. if you have any intrest in seeing one of the most geniously written movies of all time, buy this right now.
wasaraha8 - A message to overreacters...The Life Aquatic is a movie that you will either love or hate (personally I love it), it was designed to appeal to a specific crowd and not the masses. However, saying that it is the worst movie ever is over the top. How could anything be worse than 50 cent's movie for example. All I'm trying to say is that you can hate this movie but don't call it the worst movie ever.

electricbird13 - Sophisticated, Silly fun, deeply touchingGet past the silly fun (but enjoy it) and realize that the movie is all about misfits and how they come together and accept each other - and in the end themselves. Beautiful to look at, off-beat and sweet, but not sentimental. It's about how life is both fresh and beautiful and terribly disappointing. It's about getting past the disappointment and disillusionment and returning to what is beautiful in our own imperfect lives and in those that we love.
Palomides - You'll either love or hate this movie. I loved it.This movie has it all. Itâs well acted and directed, and has an actual story in which the characters grow and at the end of the movie arenât the same people they were at the start. Iâll admit although I think this is one of the funniest movies Iâve ever seen and laugh every time I watch it over again, not everyone will find it funny. I have a lot of friends who just donât get it. My advice is to relax when you watch it, sure it has a little magic realism and is a little farcical but thatâs part of Wes Andersonâs genius. I actually liked this one better than his three earlier films.
Bama23 - Such an original piece of entertainmentThis film is one of the most entertaining products of any American director and film crew I've ever seen. The stop-motion sea life and mock-oceanographic documentary feel is amazingly entertaining and emotional. Bill Murray is at his best, along with brilliant perfromances from Owen Wilson and Cate Blanchett. The soundtrack is awesome with spectacular songs from Seu Jorge, who covers David Bowie songs in Portuguese. The comedy is so great because it is not the random, slap-stick, lame-o material we see in newer films. Please take the time to view this film and be enlightened.

The_Gube_Is_Awesome - Intern # 1Bill Murray was very funny and good in this movie. However, it seemed as though the film couldn't have a serious moment. Whenever something serious would happen, some funny line or action would occur, which can be part of this movie's magic. WARNING: The f-word is said quite a few times so if that bothers you, you may want to consider gettnig an editted version from a different place.
Fans of the CBS TV show "Criminal Minds" willl enjoy this tidbit of information. Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr. Spencer Reid), otherwise known as "The Gube", is in this movie. He interned in film school under Wes Anderson. Anderson gave the Gube the chance to be in the film. He is Niko, one of the interns. The only intern with a speaking part, I believe. He has an afro in this movie!!
Anyway, overall, the movie is pretty funny with a good outlook on life. I recommend renting it and then considering if you want to buy it or not. I'm going to buy it.

Rojacasm - You Have To Understand Wes AndersonThe character's in Wes Anderson's film have been described as quirks following characters, and this is a very good description. His characterization skill is his greatest talent, each of his characters having unique and distinct qualities, his humor is very dry and rarely enters the realms of physical comedy. Not only is it dry, but also very artsy and intelligent, which a lot of people aren't comprehensive of. I don't recomend buying this film unless you have enjoyed other Anderson movies, because this movie is very consistently Anderson-esque, much more so than a lot of his movies. If anything rent it first, or start with something lighter like The Royal Tenenbaums, which in my opinion is better.

CamTheMan93 - GO TEAM ZISSOU!well this movie is really cool. but lots of people don't like it.why. they don't know the background of it. it's sort of a tribute to Jacques Cousteau the original red cap wearing explorer of the deep. but anyway back to the movie. one of the members of team zissou plays David Bowie songs in acoustic but translated into potuguese witch is very cool the lightning strike rescue op is the best scene. GREAT PLOT AND AN AWESOME ENDING!
ChrisGiant - Just when i thought Ishtar was the worst movie ever made...Not much i can say about this movie, except that it tanked, and tanked hard. Good actors in a poor script. It should have been entitled, Ishtar 2, the search for dialog thats funny.

Big Baller - Wes AndersonâGotta Love HimThe Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is a magnificient film, and Wes Anderson is a visionary director. His awkward acting and filming is hilarious-really something to marvel at. This movie is not only spectacularly made, but its hilarious. Bill Murray's character is much like the one he played in Rushmore, and he is really in his element. The Soundtrack is also great. My only problem with the film is that Owen Wilson's acting is a little weak at times, especially at the beginning, but he eventually grows into his character. I hope you enjoy this movie as much as I did. It's quirky, but worth buying and watching over and over again.

This movie is not for everyone. Its not even for some fans of Anderson's other works apparently. But Its for me so I don't really care. If you think it looks interesting, and you wanna see, do it.
The Omnipotent - AmazingThis is one of the greatest movie's ever, and it's not that unbelievable with such a star-studded cast. There are so many great lines from this movie, but one of my favorite has to be this:
