Surprisingly good with a great soundtrackI wasn't a fan of the film at first, but as it progressed, I came to appreciate its moral and how well the storyline was planned. Shyamalan did a great job at tying every lose end of the plot's ropes so as not to leave me confused. The music was terrific and appropriate and rightfully deserved the Academy Award for Best Score. The film is definitely one of Shyamalan's better efforts and is underestimated by Rotten Tomoatoes..Score: 4/5

Shyamalan's MasterpieceI know that this film got a lot of hate from both critics and audiences alike. But if you give it time to sink in and think about where it's coming from, then there is a chance that you will have found a good movie in there. I can see where it might infuriate some, but I can see where people would like it. I enjoyed this film right from the start. The opening titles were frightening if you let them be, setting an appropriate mood for the film. Now, Shyamalan brings us the setting, taking time and care to introduce us to the lifestyle of this village with its small population, the amish-like ways, and the calm, relaxing period of 1897. He shows us that the villagers have lived here for many years, and that they are aftaid of these things that inhabit the woods around them, called Those We Don't Speak Of, and that there is a truce with them: The villagers don't go into Covington Woods, and Those We Don't Speak Of won't enter the village. SPOILER: The first twist had a lot of people furious: Those We Don't Speak Of are not real. I think this made people mad because it seemed to "take away the menace". But for those of you who are concerned about that, don't worry: the second twist will once again disprove the existence of Those We Don't Speak Of, but there is still meance. SPOILER: The third twist was (for me) the bow on the gift-wrapped package: It is not 1897. It is, in fact, July 30th, 2004 (the date of the film's release--you can just see it on a newspaper). This might have, once again, made people just stark raving mad, but give it time, think about it. Shyamalan fully explains this in voice-overs. The elders, who are responsible for the entire setup, have all suffered losses: August Nicholson's brother worked in a hospital when he was shot by a drug addict. Edward Walker's father was shot over a dispute for money. These murders just keep piling up/ Ultimately, this film is coming from loss, grief, and is much more character-based than any of Shyamalan's other films. It is based solely on the decisions of characters and does not need violence or crazy action to propel the plot. It gets along fine with the actions of the characters. I hoope I've been able to give a general idea of why I loved the movie, and of why it is amazing. Looking at the movie as character-based makes it an enjoyable experience. Add it to the amazing acting, brilliant script, and Shyamalan's flair for not showing you everything..Score: 5/5

I live by the woods and know what its like to walk in the woods at night .Some how he captured the feeling of walking in the woods at night. No big scares, but good nonetheless...The story is original, interesting and well acted. This movie is more a serie of mysteries revealing themselves as time pass. And there are certainly a few mysteries here that will make you wonder. You can safely see this movie before bedtime, for the danger of having nightmares are very low. Still, it will give you a thing or two to think about....Score: 4/5
It was headed in the right direction, until the ending.SPOILERS ALERT: Honestly, it's a shame that The Village couldn't be a horror movie. Finding out that the werewolf was actually some guy dressed up was quite disappointing. The ending's supposedly "scary scenes"are ridiculous. Honestly, there is a jump scene where a mentally challenged male chases a woman. The beginning of the film offered thrills and chills, it just went downhill after the mentally challenged man murdered the main character's boyfriend. Then the focus became to get medicine for him. Also, surprisingly these characters are living in modern times, they just live in the woods because they don't believe in the new technology that Is out there. At the end of the movie, the main character explores modern life. The movie changed from Horror Movie to Crap Drama Queen Movie..Score: 3/5
The VillageThis is an excellent example of suspense with out the vulgar gore that so often ruins horror film. All of the true classic horror films have been with out it and that this film embraces that tradition allows for an undiluted experience allowing the cinematic beauty of the scenes to sink in. The rich colors chosen for the characters the way that they express the individuality and community of the world they live in. The yellow to emphasize the feeling of togetherness, how they handle the seemingly dangerous world they live in by the visual representation of "together we are strong"and the red to emphasize the fear of the unknown, and how they have the belief that if you remove what scares you it some how goes away. A belief that is proven wrong in the film climax. I chose to rate this so highly due to the subtle yet prevailing quality of the work..Score: 5/5
