An all-star cast lights up the screen in this riveting epic set in 1942. As the Nazis cut a deadly swath through Russia, the citizens of Stalingrad are mounting a brave resistance, spurred by the exploits of their local hero, Vassili Zaitsev (Jude Law). An expert sniper, Vassili's deeds have become legendary—thanks to propaganda produced by Vassili's best friend, a political officer named Danilov (Joseph Fiennes). To stop Vassili, the Germans dispatch their best sniper, Major Konig (Ed Harris), to Stalingrad. When Vassili and Danilov both fall in love with a beautiful soldier (Rachel Weisz), Danilov deserts his friend, leaving Vassili to face his German counterpart alone. As the city burns, Vassili and Konig begin a cunning game of cat and mouse, waging a private war for courage, honor and country.

An overall pretty good war film.Sure it can't get close to Private Ryan but this is worth a watch. The acting is pretty good and the story is quite good. Some of the sniper sequences were pretty cool. However it has an absolutely atrocious soundtrack. it has one tune through the whole thing...it was so repeated that me and my friends kept making fun of it afterwards. Anyway if you just feel like seeing a pretty good war movie than give this one a rent. If you like snipers in WWII then definetly buy it!.WhendonesqueScore: 4/5

Great - and accurate too!I was in Volgograd (previously called Stalingrad) and toured a war museum there. The sniper from the movie, Vissili Zaitsev, was buried there. The museum also had both Zaitsev's and Major Konig's uniforms and weapons. From what I was told, the story line in the movie is fairly accurate. The movie itself is very well made. With an exciting plot and a love story, it keeps your attention! There is one scene that seems unnecessary (sexual content), but it's easy to skip to the next scene without missing anything important..Charlotte-estelleScore: 5/5

Divine ProductionThis film is one of the best out there. My grand-father was a russian sniper in Stalingrad during WW2 and he has only told me his story once. This film is TRASH!The novel Enemy At The Gates is WAYYY better. this movie only used 5 pages from the book. What i hate about this movie was how it focused on one person sniping, instead of the REAL battle of Stalingrad. They did not focus on the war itself, and it would have been a great film if it did. oh and TAKE THE LOVE STORIE OUT OF THIS! what?! they did not have time for sex and love in stalingrad! they were too busy dying! 1 star, if not less.Altan JamesScore: 1/5

A real rarityIts rare that a movie actually captures what a war LOOKS like. Its dirty, grimey, bloody, scary, messy and destructive.
