Set in old Detroit, a crime-ridden ghetto of the not too distant future, a cop killed in the line of duty is robotized then dispatched to fight crime. But Robocop is haunted by memories and dreams of who and what he used to be. As he rediscovers his past, he uncovers a murder conspiracy at the highest level of police management.

In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.

Great movie, terrible transferThis movie is great. But the transfer is a mess. The colors are muddied, there are large digitization blotches, and the entire film lacks sharpness. It looks like an up-sampled laser disk release, not true HD. Prepare to be disappointed..Daddy WarpigScore: 1/5

The ORIGINAL!Forget that piece of crap re-make... This is where it's at. You cannot simply re-make a Paul Verhoeven film without Paul Verhoeven. Seriously iTunes, this is getting annoying....+Review:)Why can't you put HD on all the Robocop films? Or at least this one? The fact that this film has some very good action sequences and has a large fan base should be enough reasons for you to put this in HD along with Robo 2 and 3. And now for the review: Robocop is all around the ideal action/sci-fi/somewhat black comedy ever made. It has all the proper ingredients of the perfect action movie "apple pie". This apple pie is warm, fresh, and feels like something new. Almost as if the main ingredient (plot) is so original, this could be the standard for Hollywood action films. The visual effects, by 1980s standards are truly amazing, and even for today, as it shows what else is possible in Hollywood without 100 million dollar+ CGI and Special Effects. The acting is also truly superb, with the best performances being delivered by Weller (especially in the suit) and by Kurtwood Smith, who is easily one of the greatest villains to ever be shown on the silver screen. The writers and director obviously knew how to mix the perfect blend of action with science fiction, sometimes drama, and very, very, very, very dark comedy. Modern action/comedy films are just Shoot/Love/Shoot/Sex/Shoot/Break Up/Shoot to get girl back/Love/The End. Robocop knew how to fit the comedy in at the right time with the action. Also, the grittiness is practically what made Robocop what it is. All around, the greatest film of all time, coming from a guy who has seen 600+ films of all genres in his life. See it. Worth the ten bucks, and would be even more worth the 20 bucks for HD. And at least you couldn't have only made Robocop 2 HD only to rent only on the iPad. I bought the iPad and did rent Robocop 2 HD being the fan that I am, and I know others and I'm sure others who have as well..SchwingtentpoleScore: 5/5

One of the best sci-fi moviesStill one of my favourite films of the 1980s, Paul Verhoeven's 'Robocop' succeeds on so many levels - as an action flick, as a black comedy and as a full-on splatterfest. Plenty of blood and explosions, so you might not even notice at first what a smart movie it is. Bitingly witty dialogue, a bleaker than bleak view of capitalism at work and a tale of the ultimate triumph of the human spirit in the face of death. I won't even go into the religious metaphors, 'cause you can take them or leave them. Ken Russell said 'Robocop' was the best science fiction film since 'Metropolis' ... It certainly ranks up there alongside 'Blade Runner' and 'Alien'. Forget the two sequels, though - they were just embarrassingly bad by comparison..ThaddeusJudeScore: 5/5

Mostly the Director's Cut*This contains spoilers!* I live in BC, Canada and that's where I bought this version, so I can't speak for any other countries or territories. I haven't watched the entire film yet, but I did look over many of the supposedly "X-rated" scenes of violence, and most are intact, save, oddly enough, for where Bobby is shot in the leg. That scene uses the R-rated take, so you don't see a close-up of the gunshot wound. Strange, and if that's a deal breaker for you, well then, avoid, I guess..Dersu DeLargeScore: 5/5
