Adapted from William Shakespeare, the film tells the story of two couples--confirmed bachelor Benedick and caustic Beatrice, and young Claudio and innocent Hero. Playful bickering defines one couple, whereas romance and betrayal describe the other.
In this Shakespearean farce, Hero and her groom-to-be, Claudio, team up with Claudio's commanding officer, Don Pedro, the week before their wedding to hatch a matchmaking scheme. Their targets are sharp-witted duo Benedick and Beatrice -- a tough task indeed, considering their corresponding distaste for love and each other. Meanwhile, meddling Don John plots to ruin the wedding.

Fantastic movie, even with the Keanu blunder!Kenneth Branagh once again creates intellegent entertainment that reaches a wide audience with "Much Ado". With the exception of the poor performance of Keanu Reeves, the acting is superb. Robert Sean Leonard depicts a young lover's angst perfectly, a young Kate Beckinsale plays the part of the ingenue to a T, Michael Keaton will make you laugh out loud, Denzel Washington will charm you once again (though this time in iambic pentameter), and the then-married Emma Thompson and Branagh will both tickle you with their witty banter and break your heart with their sincerity. An excellent movie for anyone!.Score: 5/5
Fabulous!!!!I have loved this play ever since i was eleven, and this is the best version ever. the characters are just as i imagine them, and the dialogues are carried out in a really convincing way. the location is gorgeous, and the acting is spectacular..Score: 5/5

Don't Get Me WrongDon't get me wrong... I love Much Ado About Nothing. However, Kenneth Branagh did a horrible job with this movie. He cast name-brand actors to try and get people to see the movie. He wanted names over talent. Emma Thompson is the only one that rises to the occasion. She is brilliant in this film. However, Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington fail to impress.....Score: 2/5

Pleasant enoughThere are no major problems with the adaptation that I can see, and it's a job well done. But there is also not much to get excited about, no pun intended. The truly outstanding performance comes from Denzel Washington. I understand there are a lot of Branagh and Thompson fans out there, but it is Washington who truly makes you forget all about the archaic nature of the English you are hearing. Also, Kate Beckinsale's performance here deserves more attention than it has received. Sure, Branagh was seen as the go-to guy for Shakespeare in the nineties, but considering what Baz Luhrman managed to do just a few years later, it should be acknowledged that this is still a fairly conservative, safe, and thus a somewhat stale approach. Which is also why I have no interest in seeing Branagh's version of The Murder on the Orient Express, unless it's available on a long flight. Branagh excels at his craft, but it's a craft he excels at..Score: 3/5
AMAZING!This is one of the greatest movies out there. Even though the actors are well known, they fit into thier parts so well that you forget that they've made headlines and think of them as real people. This is one of the bard's best comedies, and the acting only enhances the witty remarks and wickedly funny banter between the actors..Score: 5/5

One of my favourites.Kenneth Branagh is an expert at bringing Shakespeare to the screen. This is one of my favourite. Branagh is particularly genius with his use of long, elaborate shots done in a single take. He has done it in each of the Shakespeare films he has made. Watch for it in the closing scene..Score: 4/5
