Living in Endora is like dancing to no music. Gilbert Grape (Depp) should know. Aside from a secret affair with a housewife (Mary Steenburgen), Gilbert spends his days stocking shelves at a grocery store, caring for his mentally handicapped brother (DiCaprio), and holding together a large family headed by Mama, a former beauty queen whose weight tops 500 pounds. But just when Gilbert thinks nothing will ever change, a pretty stranger (Juliette Lewis) arrives on the scene, capturing Gilbert’s heart and inspiring him to make a break.
Gilbert Grape is a small-town young man with a lot of responsibility. Chief among his concerns are his mother, who is so overweight that she can't leave the house, and his mentally impaired younger brother, Arnie, who has a knack for finding trouble. Settled into a job at a grocery store and an ongoing affair with local woman Betty Carver, Gilbert finally has his life shaken up by the free-spirited Becky.

One of the Best and most heart-warming MoviesI absolutely adored this movie! Leo is one of my most favorite actors and I decided to watch this movie because I love him and his work. I was pleasantly surprised with the emotions he portrayed and how patient Depp's character Gilbert was with his little brother. When the town would get annoyed at Arnie I would be thinking it's not his fault, give him a break! Gilbert was a comfort throughout the movie to have someone stick up for Arnie. Even with the few sad/surprising twists, Gilbert was able to roll with the punches and be the rock for his family. The only complaint I have with this movie is that DiCaprio did not win an Oscar that would of been well-deserved! :).Score: 5/5

UNBELIEVABLE PERFORMANCESThe actors in this movie (Johnny Depp, but mostly DiCaprio) did and excellent job. Leonardo DiCaprio was incredibly realistic and lovable. You've gotta see this movie at least once..Score: 4/5
Heart-Warming, Deep-Rooted, Captivating.This is an absolutly fanominal movie. It tells the tragic, but heart-warming story of a close-nit family falling apart, and trying to be put back together by the oldest son (Johnny Depp). Leonardo DiCaprio gives an un-real performance as a autistic child that still amazes me, while Johnny Depp gives an amazing performance as the older brother/father figure to the family. I would recommend this movie to anybody, and I could watch it over and over again. I can't stress enough how much you should watch this movie. It has funny moments, but an underlying deepness as the way through, that really made me think hard about life. Definatly a classic, and a personnal favorite of mine. Maddie.Score: 5/5
