The U.S.S. Enterprise proudly soars again in this newly restored, Director's Edition of the original Star Trek movie classic. When an unidentified alien destroys three powerful Klingon cruisers, Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) returns to the newly transformed U.S.S. Enterprise to take command. Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and the cast from the acclaimed Star Trek television series mobilize at warp speed to stop the alien intruder from its relentless flight toward Earth.
When a destructive space entity is spotted approaching Earth, Admiral Kirk resumes command of the Starship Enterprise in order to intercept, examine, and hopefully stop it.

Now better than Star Trek II?With the new CGI SFX, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" is transformed! I was amazed how much better the entire picture feels. I have read that the original cut was rushed through post production, and it always felt like it was. While the SFX of the original cut were on par for it's time, it was nothing amazing. With this edit, the entire fim feels tighter and looks amazing. In the past I would have placed the film as one of the worst of the original cast pictures: Now, I say it is the best. Yes, even better than "The Wrath of Kahn". If that dosen't tell you how amazing this director's cut is, and that you have to see the new version, I don't know what will..Score: 5/5
A terrific movie worth watching again, but Star Trek XI is the Best Star Trek EVER!I thoroughly enjoyed this movie after watching Star Trek XI on a recent Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Minneapolis. I then again watched Star Trek XI for the third time. I enjoyed each of the Star Trek Movies but still regard The Motion Picture as an essential. It is remarkable to see how William Shatner has grown and reinvented himself as first a cop, then a writer, then as a sex-craved maniac on Boston Legal. Never, though, will he better his performance as James Kirk. Sure wish they could have gotten him in XI. I am really grateful to Apple for making Star Trek movies and tv series available - C. This is Great!!!!I love this movie and I do not get why some people do not, the Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home are better but this movie is still one of my favorite Trek films. I love seeing the Enterprise refit and The Director's Edition is so cool with remaster scenes and audio format. If you love Star Trek then yes you should love this movie. I would pick The Director's Edition over the original theatrical version because this is what the director intended for the movie to look like..Score: 5/5
Actually worse than the originalI was so excited to see this directors cut of a movie I have been a fan of for many years. After downloading and watching the movie for the first half hour I noticed the subpar quality which I now understand to be standard definition not high definition. I actually went back and watched the original non-directors cut and the quality is unbelievably better. Hard for me to Watch the directors cut even with the new scenes. That it seems her absolutely not worth the extremely low quality of the picture. I feel like I've been ripped off.Score: 1/5

The Best Trek FilmNot the most popular opinion, but I truly would call this the best Star Trek film. No other Trek film captures the pure wonder, awe, and hope that Star Trek represents. As an audience we truly adventure into the unknown with a sense of exploration and curiosity. Though lacking in the action and excitement of later Trek films, Star Trek: The Motion Picture is truly something magical. BetterI never liked this movie, as it didn't really have the feel of the original series. It's dialogue is embarrassing, characters dull, and long periods of staring out the view screen. Great science fiction story though, can't deny that. The directors cut is an improvement, but they should have brought in a decent screenplay, and new actors at the beginning.
