Worth a rent!I was hesitant to rent this movie, due to the mixed reviews. I am glad I decided to watch!!! As a fan of the genre I say it is absolutely worth watching. I won't argue that there are some plot holes, but The movie is a fun watch with some interesting components. It isn't a copy of any other supernatural plot. I enjoyed both this film and it's sequel Day Watch. If you are hesitant due to some of the other reviews, take my word for it...this movie is worth $2.99. I don't know about the dubbed version, but I say watch it in Russian. The subtitles aren't at all distracting and I don't feel like I missed any action reading them. Please rent and enjoy!!!!!!!!.Score: 4/5

Great concept, poor executionI really, really wanted to like this film. I'm a fan of the vampire genre, and can even tolerate some lackluster plot lines that often accompany the genre. I knew the movie was a Russian film, unlike some who have posted here, and so the subtitles were not an issue. I had great hopes for this film based on the dark and gritty trailer. I was so disappointed when I could not find one theater playing it in my area (greater LA), and rented it the day it came to DVD. It was, at times, visually stunning, and you can see his style in the recently released "Wanted", but the story really left me with no desire to see the rest of the trilogy. Overall, like 300, the story was not engaging but the film shows inklings of cinematic wonder. So if you really need a solid story to carry you through, skip it, but if the visual stimulation is worth your time, by all means, hit the "buy this film button" and write your own review. Or, you can see "Wanted" to get a sense of his style, and then decide....Score: 1/5
Half of a pairNight Watch depicts how sometimes those on the side of "good" can be lazy or forgetful of their responsibilities, and how those on the side of "darkness" can be well-meaning, sensitive souls who end up in the wrong place. If you watch them both, you'll get the message. Otherwise, they're a lot of creepy fun..Score: 5/5

A very simple choice to decide if you should rent it or not...If you liked the original Underworld, then this is worth checking out. If you are expecting some big blockbuster a hero saves the day kind of thing, then it's not your cup of tea. Yes, it is all in Russian with English subtitles. In otherwords, this is a "Foreign Film"... But I woud say the characters, effects, concepts, are hardly foreign. For me, enjoyable, though I was inspired to think of this as a great TV series, kinda taking a good blend of Ghostbusters, Buffy, Supernatural, and so on... Kinda like Japanese anime, you can clearly see all the American influence that inspired this movie and the sequel which I am going to try and rent soon... I loved the GhostBusters references "City Light Company" LOL..Score: 5/5

Love Night WatchThis film is amazing. Filled with fantastic Actors and stunning visual effects. The story grabs you and holds on. My only gripe is more with iTunes then anything. While Night Watch it's self is fantastic, it does have one flaw; it's in Russian. Witch is not horrible but iTunes makes no effort to inform you of this..Score: 5/5

Russian Film Noir if you like itIf you like the Russian film style of Tarkovsky and such you will enjoy this film. If you are in to big budget Hollywood this is not for you. A battle between light and dark populated with vampires shape shifters physic surgery clairvoyants and such called the others, who choose light or dark. The balance of power is kept by a truce and enforced by a special squad of Others from the light. Simple objects like a flashlight becomes a special weapon through the magic of the lens, normal becomes paranormal by use of lighting and camera work with little or no special effects or computer graphics..Score: 3/5
Stick With The OriginalThis movie is definitely better if you speak Russian fluently. The subtitles are inaccurate, often misleading, and give things away too early. I was also mildly annoyed by the English intro, the missing scenes, and the fact that they switched the song that went along with the credits. This is a brilliant, thrilling movie, but I recommend finding the original version..Score: 4/5

Some fine cinematic moments interspersed with banality"Night Watch" scores on the visual front with select awe-dropping visuals, perhaps made more awesome by the surrounding footage, which suffers from shaky cam, odd cropping, irritatingly animated subtitles and a hyperbolic, music video-esque shot-shuttling frenzy. Watch for trips into the Gloom, a feather-full transformation, and languid superimpositions of reality and surreality. On other fronts, the film leaves much to be desired, particularly in the cases of a tired vampire plot (and a few tired subplots, to top it off) and poor pacing (especially near the end). The thrilling feeling that the director’s recent blockbusting Hollywood release “Wanted” leaves you with is lacking here. Those coming from “Wanted” may want to skip this one and wait for Bekmambetov’s next move..Score: 3/5
