In Nancy Meyers' The Holiday, a romantic comedy from the director of Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want, two women trade homes only to find that a change of address can change their lives. Iris (Winslet) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda (Diaz), realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris' handsome brother Graham (Law) and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur (Wallach), mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles (Black).
It's Christmas Eve and we are going to go celebrate being young and being alive. Two women, one from the United States and one from the United Kingdom, swap homes at Christmastime after bad breakups with their boyfriends. Each woman finds romance with a local man but realizes that the imminent return home may end the relationship.. The Holiday Wiki
I wish the film was just about Kate and Jack's charecters, I'm not a fan of Cameron but the film was still good!!! Prepare for a corny romantic christmas movie, but it has a lot of heart and will make you laugh and cry!! Not the greatest movie, but a fairly decent one!
Everything about this film is marvelous. The message is great, the actors are massively talented, the cinematography is entertaining. Then there is the fact, it was partially filmed in England which makes me smile. Such a beautiful country.
perfect teeth, perfect hair terrible script, terrible acting
Amazing you just fall in love with the characters and who doesn’t love Jack Black Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet they are amazing in this movie I give it 10 but we can only go to five so I’m giving it five LOVE THIS MOVIE 😍❄️⛄️
One of my favorite movies of all time. I can literally watch it over and over again!
One of my faves all year round but especially when the fall comes
I absolutely love this movie! I watch it every holiday season and would recommend it to anyone.
One of my absolute favorites. Could watch this over and over.
It is my opinion that THE HOLIDAY has its good qualities and bad qualities. Perhaps, the best of the good qualities is that the narrative structure manages unconsciously--and perhaps, unintentionally--to be honest about how Hollywood, and we as people, tend to overcomplicate the simplest things, and oversimplify the not-so-simple things. How else do you explain Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Graham (Jude Law) getting more screen-time than Iris (Kate Winslet) and Miles (Jack Black)? Such an example of cinematic activity, of course, spells out the worst of the film's bad qualities as well. The second worst of the bad qualities is that maybe Amanda could have done without Graham, at least as a lover. She simply needs to slow down and look around, AND have time entirely to herself, after all her miserable days of living in the fast lane. Sigh. But I guess beggars can't be choosers, and you can't expect yourself to completely stop looking for somebody who might treat you better, not so soon. On the brighter side, Nancy Myers manages to capture the substance of the goings-on in life, romance, and even friendship through the half involving Iris, who has found out that the man she thought was for her was actually not. She presents and explores Iris's development and growth as a person--and as a women--as a process. NOT as an event! And as for Miles, this role gives Jack Black a well-deserved break from the "loveable loser" days. While the form of Miles' relationship with Maggie is not as complex as that of Iris with Jasper, the substance is very similar. Best of all: Black and Winslet's chemistry is fairly close to genuine. And so is that between Winslet and Eli wallach--in the role of veteran screenwriter Arthur Abbott. Why did Nancy chose to do right on one half and wrong on the other, I...DON'T...KNOW! If it was Nancy's intention to be honset about how little Hollywood knows about this or that, then she has succeeded. Needless to say, Nancy's intentions are annoyingly ambiguous. But don't sell me short! THE HOLIDAY still makes for a good holiday film, and not just for anyone in the mood for love, whatever that may be.
This is a happy, funny and feel good flick. It's in my iTunes repertoire. I must watch this at least 4-5 times a year. Imho it's well worth the purchase. Love ❤️ this flick and the score. 🏡⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a nice light romance story. Won't ever be best picture, but it is a fun feel-good movie. Worth renting. Watch for Dustin Hoffman in an unexpected drive-by cameo role.
