Surf's Up is an animated feature that goes behind the scenes of the high-octane world of competitive penguin surfing. The film profiles Cody Maverick, an up-and-coming surfer as he enters his first pro competition. Inspired by his hero, a legendary wave rider named Big Z, Cody leaves his family and his town of Shiverpool, Antarctica to travel to Pen Gu Island for the Big Z Memorial Surf Off. Cody believes that winning will bring him the admiration and respect he desires. But when he unexpectedly comes face to face with a washed up old surfer named The Geek, Cody begins to understand that the greatest champion isn?t always the one who comes in first.

Superb filmographyA film, a documentary, a style of life. The film that is "Surfs Up" brings emotions felt similarly to a live showing of Shakespeare. The incredible story of a bird who can't fly learning to soar with the help of a board envisions an equality that America has never felt. Tears ran down my face but Cody maverick wiped it away as he slit through the waves like a trained carrier pigeon. A film for your kids. A film for you. A film for your parents. Something Unique and FunI can understand why some people wouldn't like this movie, but I personally fell in love with it's psuedo-documentary style. It that works well with the animation and characters rather than clashing with them. The story is overly simple, but the story TELLING is done in such a unique way that you don't notice until you really stop to think about it. The entire style of script, humor, and acting uses a lot more realism than usual, but blends the realism very well with the cartoonish environment. The film intentionally goes against the usual writing style of the animated film; rather than using a fluid, idealistic script, the actors intentionally deliver each line in a rough, imperfect manner in order to simulate the documentary mood. The story is one of passion, competition, and a young man trying to prove himself and please his childhood hero. Cody may not be the most lovable animated star, but his story is one worth watching. It's not as savory as Happy Feet, but still merits praise..Saint LogosScore: 4/5
