In the year 2057, a crew of eight courageous men and women must embark on a journey to the Sun to reignite the dying star and save mankind from extinction. But when a terrible accident throws their mission into jeopardy, the crew find themselves fighting not only for their lives and their sanity, but for the future of us all.
Fifty years into the future, the sun is dying, and Earth is threatened by arctic temperatures. A team of astronauts is sent to revive the Sun — but the mission fails. Seven years later, a new team is sent to finish the mission as mankind’s last hope.

Forget thisHey, my first review... Didn't leave a review for other toss (Hi, Keanu, etc...), so this MUST be bad! What promises to be a sci-fi thriller of note just becomes laughable half-way through. A great cast is wasted on Boyle's inability to deliver a consistent thematic story line. It just gets silly. PhilosophicalThis movie is not about the sun, space ships, horror, or thrills. It is about our place in the universe and how we are merely a part of it, no different, no more, no less. We can create deities, gods, or try to fight our utter insignificance, however the real gods are the nearly incomprehensible forces that govern the universe. We are it, it is us, and nothing we can ever do will change that, though we can exist in greater harmony with it..Score: 5/5
Flawed Science EverywhereSmart science fiction? I don’t think so. Who needs to send a ridiculously overblown manned mission to plant a bomb on the Sun? We could do this today from our easy chairs with old-fashioned, Newtonian physics and a probe. And if you send a manned mission that goes awry and all the astronauts die, so what? The ship’s orbit declines and the Sun eats the bomb anyway. And only one man aboard who knows how to release the bomb? Ludicrous! If mankind is dumb enough to do things this-away, we’re all doomed..Score: 3/5

Can't believe I never heard of this beforeThis is a simple story that develops complexities…yet remains simple at its core. The acting is first rate; which is a surprise in todays "let the fx and cgi do the acting for me" world. Some of the ideas ("Kill off crew to save oxygen" anyone?) presented are surprising yet make sense (in the presented context). Each crew member shows their unique personalities and the acting conveys just what that means for the individual, the rest of the crew, and the overall mission. This was a fine piece of work and well worth the $10 asking price..Score: 5/5

Garland/Boyle success again!The story is short and to the point, the sun is dying, and a team of astronaughts must use a bomb the size of Manhattan to re-ignite the sun. Alright, maybe questionable science in that idea, but generally it's hard to find a movie that is so perfectly accurate. Garland does an amazing job yet again boiling down an impossible situation in the core human emotions/reactions for each of the characters. There is a genuine sense to their being they follow through thusly. Boyle does a fantastic job construction an absolutely gorgeous film to look at, at times breathtaking in its awe. Though there is the argument for the last 30 minutes or so of the film falling apart, a closer examination of the ideas and themes presented really makes it work. Not the best from either, but an amazingly strong submission into the classics of Science-fiction Cinema. A shame it slipped under the radar all year long..Score: 5/5
Might not be for everyoneSunshine proved to be more of an action/thriller than bonafide sci-fi. The plot and circumstances are poorly thought out -- as a crew of immature and undisciplined astronauts, doctors and scientists, barrel towards the sun to save Earth. Along the way they make ridiculous mistakes which add conflict to the film. Don't expect more than weak plot device, after weak plot device from this one..Score: 2/5
Run! Now! Save yourself!What a piece of crap!!! One dimensional, improbable characters spewing endless, aimless crap that leads nowhere. I felt like I was at a cheap dinner theatre except I didn't get the buffet, so this movie left me feeling empty in several ways. We didn't make it to the end. The SunWell rounded characters, and intriguing premise and plot. But the real star of this movie is the imagery. The special effects are tastefully done and really present the magnitude and awesome power of the sun. Highly recommended. Oh, and Cassie's pretty cute. ;).Score: 4/5

Start is Great, BUT the middle is Boring.At the start of the this Movie, had High Hopes, But then back to the Fast Forward Button. These people are supposed to be Scientist and they act Autonomously when it was Paramount to be a team.
