Winner of 3 Academy Awards! A New York Times reporter and his Cambodian aide are harrowingly trapped in Cambodia's 1975 Khmer Rouge revolution. Sam Waterston, John Malkovich and Haing S. Ngor (Best Supporting Actor Oscar and Golden Globe winner) star in this shattering true story.
New York Times reporter Sydney Schanberg is on assignment covering the Cambodian Civil War, with the help of local interpreter Dith Pran and American photojournalist Al Rockoff. When the U.S. Army pulls out amid escalating violence, Schanberg makes exit arrangements for Pran and his family. Pran, however, tells Schanberg he intends to stay in Cambodia to help cover the unfolding story — a decision he may regret as the Khmer Rouge rebels move in.

LOL at the 1 🌟 reviewsPhrases such as “liberal zombies,” and “the inherent evil of communism” are a couple of the best of the ridiculous people who come to the review section of a movie to push their political agenda. My absolute favorite, though, was one individual who stated that “the extent of the US bombing in Cambodia may never be known, but I’m ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN it was not as bad as the movie portrays.” Thank you, kind person. Because your absolute certainty on the issue has forever changed my viewpoint on the truth surrounding the event. In all honesty, it’s a reasonably good movie, but I wouldn’t call it great..Score: 4/5
Killing FieldsThis is without doubt one of the most horrifying, endearing, beautiful and poignant movies ever made. If you ever watch one film in your life to understand the evil, balanced with the compassion of man let it be this. I defy any person to have dry eyes during the end sequence when "Imagine" (John Lennon) plays. This genre of film making is lost today..Score: 5/5
THE KILLING FIELDS is one the best movies of all time! And definitely a movie everyone should see to learn a bit of the aftermath of the Viet Nam war as well as what journalists go through to get the story out to the public. Viet Nam was a time when the public actually saw stark reality on TV on a day-to-day basis. The pictures were not sanitized and moved the public to speak out and march against the Viet Nam war, which ultimately lead to America's pull out. This movie shows journalists honestly and plays out a great drama of two friends who loved each other as much as they loved getting the story and truth out to the world. It's unforgettable!.Score: 5/5
Killing Fields - Must SeeI backpacked through Cambodia in January 2008. Although I didn't see the (for lack of a better word) infamous "killing fields," I did visit many sites where patches of mine fields had only recently been cleared. Our guide lived through Khmer Rouge and was knowledgeable in telling us the history in detail. His story made the whole experience feel surreal. I will rent this movie and apply what I've seen and learned from my recent trip and have a feeling that I will feel the horrific emotions and turmoil again. It's these times in history that makes me wonder why more people don't know about these recent events. Oh wait, that's right, because not enough nations cared to do something about it. Sad isn't it..Score: 5/5

I think I'll passA NY Times story turned into a movie about the Vietnam War and making our miliatry and Nixon look bad? I don't think I'm going to like how this ends. I'm way more nervous about liberal zombies than anything Nixon did. Save the lies for someone else..Score: 1/5
A Great MovieThis movie really shocked me when I first saw it. I thought it was a Doc. on Pol Pot and Cambodia. But it was a harrowing movie that kept me interested the whole time and somewhat shocked. Not the movie people come out of the movie theatre all talking and laughing. Elevated awareness of this neglected tragedyA good movie that potentially could have been even better which Dr Ngor's book certainly is. For a country that more than thrived the far greater challenges and sacrifice of WWI & II , the VN war although an unfortunate mistake was, relatively speaking, a minor affair for the US. Although a small tragedy for us it was a terrible tragedy for the VN civilians and spawned the brutal ignorance of the Kemer Rouge in Cambodia devoted to an already completely discredited Maoist theory (that similarly resulted in mass murders and widespread starvation in China) of purifying the population thru rural labor while ridiculing education and attainment of professionalism. The VN war and its destructive consequences reverberated for nearly 2 additional decades across Indochina while the vast majority in self-centered US turned away with zero regard for the incredible suffering and mass atrocities. But now there is peace which is wonderful to see if you visit there. And after the killing deprivation and fear and anxiety subsided love again took hold so that the populations have nearly doubled which provided the foundation for their economic resurrection. But although the foliage has recovered the wildlife (from warfare, defoliants, and foraging by millions of starving people) essentially disappeared so the lush jungles are eerily almost silent the animals where they exist turned to complete silence for their survival in meager numbers..Score: 4/5
Young TKF fan. "Make this movie open your eyes!"Every time I see this movie, it reminds me how to feel again. It angers me that there was no country willing to help the civilians. But in truth this is a holocaust. It's sad of it not being recognized, of what the khmer rouge did. That this is still happening around the world, even after the holocaust in WW2. I meet a survivor and he lost most of his family. I hope more movies show the unheard stories of victims of infamous hate. But to have the will to outlive it is incredible. ;P yahhh!!!.Score: 5/5
