Romeo + Juliet Description

Baz Luhrmann’s modern classic unfolds with its heart on its sleeve and guns ablaze. In this dazzling adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic love story, OSCAR® Nominee Leonardo DiCaprio stars opposite Claire Danes. They light up the screen as the original star-crossed lovers against a thumping soundtrack and a boldly imagined modern-day setting.

In the floating continent of Neo Verona, the Montague family seized control and murdered every member of the Capulet family with the exception of Capulet's daughter, Juliet Fiammata Asto Capulet. 14 years later, Juliet and the remnants of Capulet's retainers live hidden from the iron fist of the Montague family. Juliet has long forgotten the murder of her family or her identity, and cross dresses as Odin and the town's hero of justice, "Red Whirlwind." A sudden escape in her daily escapades leads her to meet Romeo Candorebanto Montague, the kind son of the tyrannical Montague. Destiny has been set as these two individuals soon to be "star-crossed lovers" are cruelly toyed with by fate in the midst of war. Loosely based on the play by William Shakespeare.

Romeo + Juliet Movie Reviews

    Brett II
I read the play Romeo & Juliet when I was in 8th grade. The whole class spent weeks studying it. I honestly thought that it was one of the greatest plays I’ve ever read. After we finished the play, we saw 2 film versions of it: one from 1968 and this one. I like this one better because it has a great mixture between Shakespeare’s times and the ‘90s. It also has a great cast. One of the greatest romance films of all time!!!
  • Love it

This movie is so good and I love Leo so much.
  • This was terrible

good god, I remember this movie from when it came out, watched it in middle school, I can't believe some one had the idea to make shakespeare’s with guns but still shakespearian talk.
  • This movie is great

This movie is great, and fun. I like this movie a lot. I love all of the characters in this movie. I love Leonardo Dicaprio in this movie. It is one of my favorite movies.
  • Download keeps failing

I rented this movie and the payment went through. However, I am unable to download it for some reason. It would start downloading and then fail. I have cleared my memory and even restarted my iPad. Nothing worked.
  • Beyond Awful.

I'm not sure why the film industry likes to bastardize the classics, but this was beyond awful. It's as if they were dying to have DiCaprio as the star (why, I don't know) but he can't do Shakespeare, so they wrote a script for him. Whatever their reasoning, it doesn't work in the least. Horrendous.
  • Best Ever!

    JoongKi's Fan!!!
I love it! It's a great movie and fantastic version of Romeo & Juliet. The soundtrack makes it amazing too! Watch this version!
  • 10/10 would recommend!

Many people disliked this movie because of the strange sets, and use of the original play's script. I feel that's what makes this movie so amazing! You can't quite tell when it's set which adds to the timelessness of the story.
  • Terrible awful stupid

This is the worst movie I have ever seen, not only was it inaccurate and idiotic but it was a terrible way to portray William Shakespeare's play. The actors fitted to portray certain characters were ill-suited and wrong! His attempt to make it modern was only confusing and it lost the real emotion found in Romeo and Juliet. Let's not forget his camera work looks like I could have dome it on snapchat.
  • I love it!!!!

Omg I love this movie so much!!!This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time!I would totally recommend you to rent or but it!!!!!!
  • Words Don't Even Describe...

Terrible, worst movie I've ever seen. Also, some of the worst acting ever put into a motion picture, not saying I could do better, but still, terrible... 'nuff said.
  • The best movie ever

This move is grate I loved it!
  • Romeo and Juliet

Shakespeare didn't even write half of his plays. He just edited them. Romeo and Juliet was a roman play he spiced up with death and gore. Just like every other play he "wrote" This movie is far better than that awful play. Romeo a typical teenage boy, came out of a relationship because his ex wanted to be abstinent. He sneaks to a party, kisses Juliet after literally 30 seconds. They get married... Juliet pretends to kill herself, Romeo is overdramatic and kills himself, then Juliet feels awful so she really kills herself. What a great story. So don't hate on the movie until you really READ the play.
  • It was okay....

I watched this in English after reading the play and watching the other 1960s film. Leonardo was hotter than ever but it feels as if it could have been made better. It feels extremely low budget and just not good. The mixture of Shakespeare's words do not mix well with the modern era and they could have made it work. If ur watching this for an original Shakespeare play, don't. If ur watching it for its comedy on the spin off of characters and don't mind low budget films, then it's a movie for you. I don't really like this movie but I don't hate it either

Okay, first of all, they use William Shakespeare's original text because the movie is "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet." It's realized that if the movie is "modern-day" that people would not speak like that; however, in order to not break copyright laws, the director had to use Shakespeare's words. The actors play their roles really well, and the director was very clever with incorporating the language into a modern day setting. All in all, a great film.
  • Romeo + Juliet

Okay, as stupid as the beginning was, I really liked this movie. The beginning did not hook me AT ALL, but I forced myself to keep watching it and I really loved it when it was over... So if you agree with me at the beginning, don't turn it off, watch the whole thing before you judge it. P.S. Leonardo made the movie. It would have been horrible without him.
  • Awesome movie!

This is a great love story, and I think the way they modernized it was really exciting. Classic and new, it's a super amazing movie but also sad, so many emotions. Also Leo is so hot in this!! Love him :)
  • Awesome

Great movie is all to be said
  • Awesome!!!!

I really loved it! It's not boring like some other old story movies. It could be set at a boring time. Loved Leonardo DiCaprio! <3
  • Heinous

    It's A Shame About Ray
I am a huge fan of Shakespeare, and this is not Shakespeare. The actors clearly do not understand the words coming out of their own mouths, and by the director's own admission, the movie only uses about ten percent of the original play's material. If you care anything about seeing a reasonable interpretation of the Bard's original work, avoid this movie like the plague. Watch the 1968 movie. It, and virtually every other movie made, stands head and shoulders above this disaster.
