A charmingly naïve boy from the English village of Wall travels to a magical, mythical world in search of the falling star that will help him win the heart of his true love in this fantasy adventure starring Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ricky Gervais, and Sienna Miller. For hundreds of years the massive cobblestone barrier that surrounds the sleepy English hamlet of Wall has kept the citizens of the village safe and secure from the malevolent supernatural forces that stir just outside its perimeter. When dashing Tristran Thorn (Cox) promises the fairest girl in the village, Victoria (Miller), that he will prove his love by bestowing her with a genuine falling star, his daring mission sends him on an adventure far outside the comfortable confines of Wall. In order to find the fallen star, Tristran will have to ascend the wall and venture deep into the forbidden heart of the fantastical realm known as Stormhold. Upon discovering that the meteorite he sought was in fact a beautiful girl named Yvaine (Danes), who has stumbled though space and is now being pursued by the King of Stormhold's (Peter O'Toole) sons (who long to use her cosmic powers to lay claim to the throne), Tristran vows to protect the otherworldly visitor at all costs. But the King's sons aren't the only ones in search of the luminous Yvaine; fearsome witch Lamia (Pfeiffer) has become convinced that the young girl's power can help her to achieve eternal youth and beauty. As Tristran makes his way through Stormhold on a mission to bring the star back to Wall, he will encounter a series of spectacular characters and creatures that will lead him to a fate he never imagined. Layer Cake director Matthew Vaughn serves as screenwriter and director for this tale of witches and pirates adapted from the novel by fantastic literature icon Neil Gaiman, who also produces.
In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm. His journey takes him into a world beyond his wildest dreams and reveals his true identity.

SILLY BUT FUN, A MODERN "PRINCESS BRIDE"I'm not much for fantasy movies and I'd say this one pretty much follows the pattern of most, with a few predictible plot twists - but it's still a lot of fun! What's most refreshing about it is that it lacks the self-seriousness of most other PG-13 fantasies: the humor is plentiful, unexpected, and just plain silly. The scenes are well-balanced between action/special effects and gool ol' storytelling. All the actors are great. The two leads in particular are wonderfully likable and have a great 'chemistry' - something sadly lacking in so many modern flicks. This movie is by no means a masterpiece, but who needs a masterpiece to be entertained? Sit back, enjoy, and let imagination take the reigns. :).Score: 4/5
One of the best movies I have ever seenThis is, simply put, one of the most Epic movies I have ever seen. This is in my top 3 of all time.
The story itself is simply Epic in scope. There are so many amazing plot twists and turns, humor, action, love, shock, dismay, fear, and more. They took two hours to make this movie because that is what it took to make it right, and at no time did the story feel rushed, or did you feel as if corners were cut to tell the story.
The acting was absolutely superb by everybody. Everybody did such a good job in their roles, that I can't imagine anyone else could have filled the roles they did. I never once felt as if anybody was pushing their lines. Nothing ever felt hokey, or fakes, or 'acted.' To the contrary, all of the actors and actresses drew you into the story and had you cheering for the good guys and booing the bad guys (or witches in this case ;-)
This is one of the very few movies I have seen where the absolutely stunning special effects didn't exist for the sake of showing off special effects or the technical genius of a special effects outfit. Instead, special effects were so expertly used, and used just exactly right, that you get lost in and become part of the story, instead of feeling like you are on the outside watching in. Because of that, the technical geniuses who actually pulled off the special effects accomplished something even greater than the biggest special effects in a mega-budget movie such as Star Wars, or
BrilliantAfter watching the movie I did purchase the book and it was just as magical as the movie. Rarely do Movies and Books both come out well done. This is just such a case. Good movie, even better book!Okay, you guys should know that this was based on an EXCELLENT book by the wickedly talented Neil Gaiman - his stories are capable of transporting a reader to a whole other universe or dimension, and i always feel like i physically traveled somewhere after i surface from every novel of his. On to the movie... Where the book is at once whimsical and dark and sweet and earthy and even sinister at times, the movie is just pure fun. It doesn't completely capture the essence of Neil Gaiman's writing, but it brought the story to life in its own way, and i thoroughly enjoyed the movie on its own merit. Of course, an all-star cast like this one doesn't hurt, and you can tell these thespians were living it up and having the time of their lives, especially Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro - the latter was HILARIOUS! And Claire Danes was positively glowing (literally and metaphorically). It's a family movie, the kind where all generations can come together to enjoy on repeat occasions. Worthy buy..Score: 4/5
Such a Treat!I watched this movie for the first time last week . I’m so glad I did. I’ve been it two more times since then . I showed it to two people that never heard of it . I was shocked how creative the plot was and original . So many terrific big name actors. Love it!!On the TV commercials Stardust looked really dumb and not worth watching. What was the whole thing about a star falling? But when I watched it, it was amazing! The actors did an amazing job esspecially Yvaine (Claire Danes) because how often do you get asked to act out being a star?! Not often!
