Stupid people doing idiotic thingsOk, I understand that the guy died, but... he killed himself due to really poor decision making. I live in Alaska. I lived in a tent for two full years. There were times that it hit -45 for two weeks at a stretch in the long winters. I'm a true survivalist. I climb mountains etc... all things Alaskan. This guy didn't have the common sense to think about planning ahead for a hard winter. Being snowed in with no power is one thing, but he had a frickin school bus to shelter in. He should have stockpiled food and other survival gear(-40 bag, bivy, fuel and single burning stove, and many other items). Life is fragile, but we need to plan ahead so that we insure our survival. And don't put your city boy perspective and lifestyle in a test against nature in an area where he couldn't get taxi service..Score: 1/5
Love it or hate it. It’s a hell of tripMistakes? Plenty were made that’s for sure. But while you may jeer at McCandless, it’s highly doubtful anyone of one his critics would have survived as long as he did. Enough arm chair psychology. Enjoy this wonderful yet sad story..Score: 5/5
Amazing!Never in my life have a seen such a movie as this. From the Krakauer pages to the screen Sean Penn did an amazing job. Add to that the incredible cast and magnificent Eddie Vedder music and you get the best movie of 2008 - and my lifetime. How the Academy missed this movie is beyond me. Thanks to everyone (the McCandless's and Sean Penn) for getting this movie made. It's one I'll never forget..Score: 5/5
Heartbreaking, but ExceptionalI became interested in watching this movie after I read an article highlighting "Into the Wild" as one of the few films to include a remote, off the grid community known as the "Slab". Wanting more insight, I rented the movie. I was quickly drawn in by the story of a young man who seems to have it all - opportunity, intelligence, good looks and manners. Except he walks away from it all, and the reasons why take time to unravel and distinguish. It really took me the length of the movie to understand his motives and the hidden complexities of his personality that made it possible. By the time the truth fully surfaces for the viewer, you realize the full tragedy of what you've been watching, and I have to admit, I cried. It is an especially compelling story, given that it is a true one..Score: 4/5

MISERABLE. TRULY THE MOST MISERABLE MOVIE EVER.True story on top of it! The moral of this horrible movie is...."don't run away from your troubles...deal with them." That atleast gives you lots of options you may not otherwise have. Amazing how with a nationwide hunt they weren't able to find this guy. Good work as usual from the police. Freaking scary.
