Josh Harnett (Black Dahlia, Pearl Harbor) crosses over to the dark side in this bone-chilling adaptation of the cult-hit graphic novel, brought to the screen in all its demonic glory. In a small Alaskan town, thirty days of night is a natural phenomenon. Very few outsiders visit, until a band of bloodthirsty, deathly pale vampires mark their arrival by savagely attacking sled dogs. But soon they find there are much more satisfying thirst-quenchers about: human beings. One by one, the townspeople succumb to a living nightmare, but a small group survives...at least for now. The vampires use the dark to their advantage, and surviving this cold hell is a game of cat and mouse...and screams.
This is the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. As the last rays of light fade, the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires bent on an uninterrupted orgy of destruction. Only the small town's husband-and-wife Sheriff team stand between the survivors and certain destruction.

A ploy for some sensibility amongst absolute ridiculousness.I would have to say this is a decent film. Amongst horror films, the plotline is fairly original. I'm sure I could point out small movements and little flickerings of light that might, perhaps be relative to another film, but that would certainly not be anything significant or worth writing about. The gore is not neccesarily excessive, in terms of modern horror. Violence occurs in intervals which are their own creations, rather than an all-out blood frenzy of crude, idiotic violence. I would have to say that the acting is on par. Perhaps a virtue of this movie is that dialogue, verbal acting, is not at center stage. Rather, there are long bouts of expression-dominated acting, and screams of terror, which are believable. Should horror scare you, this film will certainly be frightening. However, should you be unaffected by the aura of horror films, there are a number of well-executed, sudden actions, which will probably cause you to jump in your seat, if only a little. I found this movie to be anything but "monotonous." Granted, seeing this film as something changing and captivating might require one to have patience greater than, or equal to, the common, lobotomized hampster, with attention-deficit disorder. In short: I think this movie is definitely worth watching. I genuinely enjoyed it. The plot is interesting, and generally unique (I would like to consider myself fairly well-read in terms of horror films, and I did not see any staring similarities or cliches). The portrayal of vampires in this film paints them as very much a new breed of monster. They are intelligent, organized, human in all but a common, mortal sense of morality. However, in action and detail, they remain a gruesome, bloody sight to behold, as they should. I am crossing my fingers, hoping that Itunes will have some new influx of more well-rounded customer reviewers. As of this moment, it seems like this thread is dominated by the illiterate, along with absurd, "rotten tomato," movie snobs, commenting out of their realm of interest or preferred genre, trying to create a plaster cast of Roger Ebert's unmentionables with their "informed" verbosity. What A Great Vampire Movie...This is one of the best vampire flicks I have ever seen! There's not a dull moment in the movie...will keep you on edge for the whole 2+ hours...the acting, special effects, plot are great...I'm glad I bought it...normally I only rent movies but since this wasn't available as a rental...took a chance...glad I did!.Score: 5/5

Seriously...just badI don't often review films, but this one was just so pathetically awful. I thought the premise was great and vampires sufficiently creepy, but then after 10 minutes in, I realize there is no real plot, no character development...just gore and screaming vampires. Great. !I actually thought it was pretty darn enjoyable till the end. I watched it in the theaters and managed to dump popcorn all over someone sitting next to me when i got startled by a particular scene from the movie. I've gotta mention that the vampires in the movie are very VERY scary.. they are unlike vampires in other movies of this genre. Their teeth...ehhh...
