Madonna and Adriano Giannini star in director/screenwriter Guy Ritchie's contemporary adaptation of Lina Wertmuller's 1974 romantic comedy, "Swept Away," a story of love, sex and too much money - all set against the backdrop of a spectacular Mediterranean island paradise. A rich, spoiled socialite (Madonna) and a handsome Italian fisherman (Giannini) find themselves stranded on a deserted island where matters of material wealth and class disparity are meaningless. And in their struggle to survive and coexist in their paradise found, they soon discover that their dramatic differences are suddenly the source of a fierce, passionate and sometimes hilarious animal attraction.
Stranded and alone on a desert island during a cruise, a spoiled rich woman and a deckhand fall in love and make a date to reunite after their rescue.

NOT AS BAD AS YOU'VE HEARD!!!Curiosity finally got the better of me and I rented this movie last night. I was pleasantly surprised at how okay it was, considering all the reviews I had read and/or heard. Don't get me wrong-- its not a great film: the idea is great but the script is NOT great. Definitely not Mr. Ritchie's best work, and not Madonna's best work--but not her worst work either! She has some really great moments in this film. I've always believed that it's untrue that Madonna *can't* act, but rather that her own persona is so huge and inescapable that no one can *buy* it when she does act. She does pretty well in this movie! Give the girl a chance! Ha ha...Enjoy!.Score: 3/5
See this movie 🍿 (ignore the loser-haters)I was prepared to not like this film 🎥 After all, Big Media can’t be wrong 😑 right? Well I’m happy to say that they are as flawed desperate and corrupt as two criminals fighting on a seedy city 🌃 street. Madonna starts off as unflattering and unsympathetic but soon warms and melts hearts as the film progresses. It’s a very beautiful 🤩 film that must be seen to be believed. It also has great touches of comedy and features a gorgeous island 🏝 scene featuring Fade Into U by Mazzy Star 🌟 Bravo 👏 Madonna, Guy Ritchie & Company!!!.Score: 5/5

Actually Quite GoodBeing a long time Madonna fan I may be as biased as the next one, however, when this movie came out I had heard so much negative buzz about it that I was really worried that it was going to be an embarrassment. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I finally saw it, and even if I was not the Madonna fan that I am, I believe I would still enjoy it nonetheless. There are some parts which are better than others, but that's true for any film. I especially love the scene where you can fully see the change in Madonna's character after catching her own octopus. There is very little dialogue but you can tell that her character is about to bust from pride and excitement and Madonna is completely convincing. Other moments which shine are the "Come-On-A-My-House" dream scene and the utterly heartbreaking ending, which I would never change. I think the film is great. Unfortunately, Madonna's acting is always going to be criticized because her audience can't ever seem to get past the fact that they're watching Madonna in a film. My point is: when Renee Zellweger plays Bridgette Jones, you watch and think of her as Bridgette Jones, but if Madonna plays anyone or anything, she remains Madonna and not the character she's trying to portray... and though that may be her fault as much as the viewers, I think it's unfair to rule her out as a bad actress when she's not as bad as the critics make her out to be..Score: 4/5
The Critics Were RightTruly, this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The story is weak, the acting weaker. Why Madonna continue to try to act after so many flops is, honestly, a complete mystery to me. It's hard to watch this movie and realize that just a few years later Guy Ritchie made the wonderful "Sherlock Holmes". A disaster. Stay away. Far away..Score: 1/5

Fanaticism Vs. RealityThis is a tough one. As an unabashed Madonna loyalist, I am compelled to hold this film in highest regard and to speak of it with nothing but superlatives of the highest order. Even in the face of overwhelming empirical evidence to the contrary, which would lead any rational person to form a very different opinion. Thus, the very essence of my being is consumed with angst by the conflicting viewpoints struggling within me. But in the end, it is clear which force wields more power. My ultimate verdict? Swept Away is without a doubt the most awe-inspiring cinematic masterpiece mankind has ever been graced to witness..Score: 5/5
