In this fact-based film, a New Jersey superintendent, Dr. Frank Napier (Robert Guillaume), watches helplessly as East Side High becomes the lowest-ranked school in the state. With nowhere else to turn, Dr. Napier enlists maverick ex-teacher Joe Clark (Morgan Freeman) to take over as principal of the declining school. Unfortunately for Clark, before he can focus on improving the student body's state exam scores, he has to somehow rid the school of its gang and narcotics problems.
When principal Joe Clark takes over decaying Eastside High School, he's faced with students wearing gang colors and graffiti-covered walls. Determined to do anything he must to turn the school around, he expels suspected drug dealers, padlocks doors and demands effort and results from students, staff and parents. Autocratic to a fault, this real-life educator put it all on the line.

Lean on Me, years laterI live in New Jersey, not too far from Eastside HS. There is a lot to be added to this movie in 2009. Joe Clark ran into a lot of trouble. He could not be batman as it violated NJ Educational Law. In fact, a sequel could probably be made of the great flick. I write this from the point of view of a teacher, who taught in a largly defacto segregated school. This is a DO NOT MISS MOVIE!.Score: 5/5
Great movieThis movie is amazing!!!! I love it. My mom went to east side high. My mom said the school was tough. She was before this. She was in class of 80'. She remembers reading the news and seeing this. She remember her sister coming home and telling her this. She loves this movie. She says it teachs kids, like me, a lesson. It did teach me a lesson.
