Seven friends, recent college graduates, are searching for a place in the real world, as they face issues of career and commitment. Leslie and Alec (Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson) try to save a crumbling romance. Wendy (Mare Winningham), a shy virgin, hides a love for Billy (Rob Lowe), a reluctant father/husband still searching for goals. Kevin (Andrew McCarthy) is a cynical writer who scorns love until he realizes he's in love with his best friend's girl. Kirby (Emilio Estevez), a law student, obsessively pursues an older woman. The beautiful, neurotic Jules (Demi Moore) paints a poignant picture of life in the fast lane. Against the backdrop of St. Elmo's, their local hang-out, they save, betray and love one another as only the closest of friends can.
A group of friends graduates from the halls of Georgetown University into lives that revolve around sex and career aspirations. Kirby waits tables to pay for law school. His roommate Kevin struggles at a D.C. newspaper as he searches for the meaning of love. Jules may be an object of adoration and envy, but secretly she has problems of her own. Demure Wendy is in love with Billy—a loveable sax player and an irresponsible drunk. Alec wants it all: a career in politics and the appearance of a traditional home life. Alec’s girlfriend, Leslie, is an ambitious architect who doesn't know about his infidelity, but his new allegiance to the Republican Party is already enough to put her off marriage.

St. Elmo's FireOne of my favorite movies everrrr!!! It's amazing! It's a phenomenal coming of age story and each character's story is unique. Each character is so different and yet they all make such close friends and they are always there for each other in the end and the different romances are remarkable! Definintely the best 80s movie and still one of the best movies!!!.Score: 5/5

SoundtrackI absolutely love this movie. Brat pack..80's...go hand in hand. However, I can't seem to find all of the songs from the soundtrack on itunes. Is there a reason????? I really don't want to have to go dig out my old cassette tapes to listen to all of the songs. LOL.Score: 4/5
Interesting movie with great diversity.The great thing about St. Elmo's, is its fantastic reality. These people are real, though stereotyped. I absolutely loved Andrew McCarthy in this movie! He and Ally Sheedy make a great team and that's to say little of their looks... I could do with a more cleaned up version of the whole Billy mess, but apart from that it is pretty enjoyable. I'm part of generation Y and I enjoyed this movie very much. Beware for viewers under fifteen though, it's got a lot of mature content..Score: 3/5
St. Elmo's Fire is a ClassicThese young stars came together and created some of the most memorable characters on screen. Demi Moore trying to figure out how to dispose of her "stepmonster" was classic. I saw the movie when it was released, and I use this term to this day to describe the woman married into the family. This movie is one to own and keep in your library. You will go back and watch it again and again..Score: 5/5

Possibly best movie from the 80s for ages 17+You can say this movie is the brat pack, but what it is is a stellar cast directed by Joel Schumacher. (BTW that phrase "brat pack" originated from actually a bad movie critique of the John Hughes and alike directed movies for young well off actors/actresses who regularly portrayed teenagers.) I love this movie! And it's not just the fact Andrew McCarthy and Rob Lowe are in it, but it's because it's a great story about friends without the sappiness and the reality of what happens after college. Highly recommend this movie if you can get the version with extra stuff like commentary, deleted scenes, etc..Score: 4/5
