Nothing equals The Birds for sheer terror when Alfred Hitchcock unleashes his foul friends in one of his most shocking and memorable masterpieces. As beautiful blonde Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) rolls into Bodega Bay in pursuit of eligible bachelor Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), she is inexplicably attacked by a seagull. Suddenly thousands of birds are flocking into town, preying on schoolchildren and residents in a terrifying series of attacks. Soon Mitch and Melanie are fighting for their lives against a deadly force that can't be explained and can't be stopped in one of Hollywood's most horrific films of nature gone berserk.

Brilliant! Creative! Daring!I had not seen this movie since I was a small child in the 1970's. I was so terrified of this movie, I could not bare to watch it again until recently. I recently was in Bodega for work related reason, and thought it was about time I watched this movie again. I am glad I did. Obviously, I was not scared by it this time. In fact, I was able to be more analytical. I did watch it twice in the 24 hour rental period so see all the details. Rod Taylor is a hunk in this movie, no doubt. He alone is worth watching this movie. What a great role for him. I was so surprised to see Jessica Tandy. I hardly recognized her. In fact, I kept looking at her to see if I could see the woman I am familiar with as the older lady in more current roles. I had to remember that this movie was made in the early 1960's, so she was a lot younger. I had totally forgotten that Suzanne Pleshette was in this movie. She was great! The combination of mechanical and real birds was seamless. According to Wikipedia, Hitchcock did use real birds during the filming. I guess that would be necessary since so much of the filming was up close, especially in the house near the end of the movie, and when Tippi was being attacked in the attic. I loved how Hitchcock blended Bodega and Bodega Bay together (two separate towns) to appear as one in the movie. Perfect! Hitchcock was a genius! I wish more directors today were as creative, brilliant and daring as Hitchcock. I have been going back and watching all of his movies again, with the perspective of an adult..Score: 5/5
The Birds....(shiver) Watcher Beware!I saw this movie when I was 11 years old, and to this day, it still creeps me out. I not only loath this movie for scaring me at such an innocent age, but I absolutely HATE how the townspeople of Bodega Bay are repeatedly attacked for no apparent reason by flocks of multiple types of fouls, and yet, they do nothing to protect themselves. That's right, you heard me. They just wait for the worst to happen and widen their eyes in terror screaming their heads off without doing a thing to defend themselves. Furthermore, the sheriff acts especially dumb after it is clearly implied that Dan Fawcett has been attacked by birds. He states something like " I think someone came in and killed him and THEN the birds came in..." Seriously? That is the most lame excuse I've ever heard. Talk about sheer stupidity! If I were Rod Taylor, or any of the victims for that matter, I would be stuffing my pockets with knives, pistols, rifles, machine guns, explosive devices (including motion sensing bombs), you name it, the whole nine yards, the works to fight off the unexplainable bird attacks. Or better yet, call the army in to quarantine the perimeter and nuke the entire area with an EINSTEIN BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, I know Mr. Hitchcock was trying to keep the plot suspenseful (which is very effective in some areas), but that does not excuse the fact that the film got away with a PG rating for its time (which, by the way, should be between a PG-13 and an R rating). Moreover, the ending is just like something out of Hitchcock's twisted imagination; I wish it had ended differently with at least some of my questions being answered (e.g.: Why did they attack? Was it from a virus they caught? Or did some mad scientist plan to take over the world using electronic ahead-of-its-time-technilogical implants on the birds?). Also, when I heard that Disney played a big part in the birds' actions and the unsettling, unnatural, unearthly sounds they make, I couldn't help thinking, "Wow, talk about the dark side of Disney". Shame on them for being apart of it. Finally, because of this movie, my family thinks I'm silly to still have a phobia about watching such a film. But please note, dear reader: IF YOU HAVE A CHILD AND/OR KID BETWEEN THE AGES OF ONE AND FOURTEEN WHO HASN'T BEEN EXPOSED TO MANY MOVIES EXCEPT ONES LIKE BABE OR CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, PLEASE (I IMPLORE YOU) PLEASE DO NOT RUIN THEIR INNOCENCE BY SHOWING THE BIRDS TO THEM!!!!!!! Don't make the same mistake my parents made years ago. For some, this review may be taken as overly exaggerated. For others, I really hope it warns them against the dangers of what television can do, even during the 1960s. PLEASE BE CAREFUL..Score: 1/5

Mostly EnjoyableAt least I liked the beginning of the movie before all of the chaos started, with some very good acting, drama & interaction, and even funny comedy. However, when the craziness started, to me it was not so believable and hard to get around, and a bit stressful. Utterly boringTerrible film. Moves at a punishingly slow pace. At first I thought they were just introducing characters & setting things up before the good stuff, but hardly any good stuff appeared during The Birds unnecessary 2 hour runtime. The bird attacks don’t even hold up and I didn’t care about any of the characters. I only liked the one scene at the bar. At least the drunk guy believed something world ending could be happening. Too bad the rest of the film is such an utterly boring waste of time spent watching characters do mundane things & having endless uninteresting conversations like audience members would even care. What was Hitchcock thinking when he made this? Probably too much about Tippi Hedren if the rumors are true. Avoid this film if you value your time!.Score: 1/5
