Academy Award winner Humphrey Bogart stars in this classic film noir as tough San Francisco private detective Sam Spade in the classic, convoluted story of Spade's involvement with a deadly band of international thieves who will lie, double cross and murder to obtain a small, jewel-encrusted statue known as The Maltese Falcon. Sam Spade's (Bogart) partner, Miles Archer (Jerome Cowan), accepts a job protecting a young woman (Mary Astor). Neither Spade nor Archer believe the woman or the story she tells them, but they do believe her money. Then, when Archer is murdered, Spade's search for the killer drags him in the web of lies and death spun by the desperate people seeking The Maltese Falcon.
A private detective takes on a case that involves him with three eccentric criminals, a beautiful liar, and their quest for a priceless statuette.

If you pay attention to the coversation detail, there are parts missing, but it's still a pretty good scene. I only comment on this because I read a review here in iTunes that reported the missing parts were all back in and correct. That comment was what helped me decide to download this movie. Perfect MovieThe Maltese Falcon is probably the most perfect of all the Film Noirs, it is almost word for word with the book, I am a retired San Francisco cop and my beat was the area where most of the story is told....There is a plaque in Burrit alley over the tunnel at Bush and Stockton Sts that reads " On this spot, Miles Archer was done in by Brigid O'Shaugnessy " Less than a block away is Dashiell Hammett lane, and you can still go to " John's Grill " on Ellis St and have Sam Spade's chops, the same meal he ate before he took the cab to Burlingame. By the way, " John's Grill " is still in the location it was when Hammett himself was a regular customer. One more thing...I am aware that it is a fictional story , but we San Franciscans know that Hammett is Spade..Score: 5/5

The stuff dreams are made of.Considered by many to be the first film noir, John Huston's masterpiece is a clinic in ensemble acting, and has the sharp screenplay to match.
