Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has now been retired for some time, but hard-up for money, he decides to step back into the ring against a few small-time boxers. Everything changes, through, when Rocky is offered the opportunity to step in with the reigning Heavyweight Champion, Mason "The Line" Dixon. Does Rocky still have what it takes to make another championship comeback?

When he loses a highly publicized virtual boxing match to ex-champ Rocky Balboa, reigning heavyweight titleholder Mason Dixon retaliates by challenging Rocky to a nationally televised, 10-round exhibition bout. To the surprise of his son and friends, Rocky agrees to come out of retirement and face an opponent who's faster, stronger, and thirty years his junior.

I hate to say it...Stallone is too old for a Rocky movie and the story is downright ridiculous, but this is a good movie.
I expected an overwhelming flop, but Stallone was realistic in presenting his age. This was the first movie since the original Rocky where you were not sure what was going to happen and I am glad to see this be the finale instead of Rocky V.

Rocky BalboaOne correction to the iTunes synopsis of this movie: Rocky was not hard-up for money. That is not why he took the fight against Mason "The Line" Dixon. It is because he was feeling irrelevant, ignored and kinda useless and because he still had "some stuff in the basement" that he needed to get out. "Fighters fight" he says in the movie.
That said, this is the best Rocky since the original. It is in part because Stallone avoids all the glitz that hampered the in-between movies and again focused on Rocky, the humble warrior with the thoroughbred stallion's heart and what does a warrior do when there is no war to fight or when he is considered washed-up when, in fact, he is not. It is also about exorcising your demons.
It reminds me, actually, of "The Wrestler", where Randy "The Ram" tries to be something he is not, tries to do something he was not, perhaps, meant to do or that it's too late for him to do and realizes that there is one pace where he truly belongs. Like it or not, his field is where he's made his bed and that is where he must lay. The difference is Rocky's health, which is not called into question in "Rocky Balboa" (they dealt with that in other movies).
