Oscar-winners Gene Kelly ("Singin' in the Rain," "An American in Paris") and Frank Sinatra ("From Here to Eternity," "The Manchurian Candidate") star as two sailors on leave in Hollywood who sneak into a movie studio so they can win an audition for aspiring singer Kathryn Grayson ("Kiss Me Kate," "Show Boat"). Nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, it won for Best Score. Kelly received a nomination for his outstanding performance, including a wonderful dancing duet with "Jerry," the cartoon mouse. Great songs from legendary Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne. Two sailors, Joe and Clarence have four days shore leave in spend their shore leave trying to get a girl for Clarence. Clarence has his eye on a girl with musical aspirations, and before Joe can stop him, promises to get her an audition with José Iturbi. But the trouble really starts when Joe realizes he's falling for his buddy's girl.

YAY!I'm sooooo utterly happy that iTunes put this movie up! It is a wonderful musical starring Frank Sinatra, at the height of his singing career in 1945, Gene Kelly, and Kathryn Grayson. It has great music, Sinatra sings so beautifully. Kathryn Grayson with her stiking Soprano voice, does a wonderful job as well. As for Gene Kelly, he does not dissapoint, as usual. The man is just so dang good! He does a cute little dancing number with Jerry the mouse (Tom and Jerry) that won awards. Overall its a great movie. : ).Score: 5/5

Strictly a Kelly project - Sinatra minimizedIf the numbers had been evenly divided between Sinatra and Kelly it would have been a much better film. Sinatra might as well have turned this down and be replaced by any old doofus. It is great to have all the examples of Kelly's phenomenal performances, but it kept putting the story on hold. If one wants more of this - insanely over the top more - watch An American in Paris, a movie with no need for its flimsy plot. It might have well been been called "watch Gene Kelly Dance on Abstract Sets. Anchors Aweigh was a warm-up for AAIP. They should have cut two GK numbers and given two more to FS. As it is, it feels like GK's ego was totally out of control..Score: 2/5
"Aweigh" means that that action has been completed, and it has!"That" action is making this film complete by having Gene, Frank and Kathryn play in one of the best movies ever made! This movie is fun and romantic, and to top it of Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra are amazing. I recommend this movie for anyone who who wants a movie that will leave them smiling! ( If you liked Anchors Aweigh, I also suggest "On the Town" and "Singin' in the Rain").Score: 5/5
