Separated from his wife Emma (Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Jennifer Connelly –"A Beautiful Mind," "Requiem for a Dream"), amnesiac John Murdoch (Rufus Sewell – "A Knight’s Tale," "The Illusionist") awakens alone in a strange hotel to learn he is wanted for a series of brutal killings but he can't remember if he did or didn't commit these murders. Indeed, most of his memories have completely vanished, and he becomes the focus of interest for both mad genius Dr. Schreber (Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winner Kiefer Sutherland – TV's '24," "Phone Booth") and sympathetic detective Frank Bumstead (Academy Award-winner and Golden Globe-nominee William Hurt – "Kiss of the Spider Woman," "Broadcast News"). Attempting to unravel the twisted riddle of his identity, Murdoch encounters a group of ominous beings known as the Strangers, shadow-like figures who have collective memory and posses the ability to stop time and alter physical reality through a process called The Tuning. Focusing their minds, they are able to change the size and shape of the material world. Murdoch manages to stay a step ahead of his adversaries as he slowly jigsaws together the puzzle of his past-bittersweet memories of his childhood, his love for Emma, and the key to the murders – while following a labyrinth leading to the Strangers' Underworld.

A man struggles with memories of his past, including a wife he cannot remember, in a nightmarish world with no sun and run by beings with telekinetic powers who seek the souls of humans.

Absolutely AwfulPlease, I implore you. Do not rent this movie. It was painful to watch. This was a classic sci fi B-movie. Remind's me of the truman show.This movie, like the truman show is based in a place that is completely controlled by an outside force meaning the setting is limited to what the outer force wants it to be. The only difference is, the entire movie is spent with the main character trying to get to the beach. And when he finally does, it all seems bland looking. It's also the type of movie you can fall asleep on during the first 10 minutes, wake up in the last 10, and still know what the movie was about, and personally, that just isn't my type of movie..RandomThought31Score: 2/5

A Hidden GemA great "Twilight Zone"-like premise with some marquee actors: Hurt, Sutherland, Connelly and the underrated Sewell. The plot twists and turns but does move forward unlike some other "avant garde" sci-fi that leaves you more annoyed than challenged. Sewell does well with his lead role but I thought Hurt and Sutherland (almost overacting but pulls it off) were particularly good and added just the right interplay with the protagonist. The evil "Strangers" are just that: evil, with little remorse for their actions and the little versions of thes ecreatures ( children? who knows) gave me the creeps long after the credits rolled. Great Movie, But Avoid This CopyThis is the theatrical cut, which unfortunately starts out by literally telling you what's going on and destroying the mystery of the story. Seek out the Director's Cut, especially if you know nothing about the movie going in. I wish iTunes would have labeled this as the theatrical cut..FracturedButWholeScore: 3/5
