PerfectIt is unbelievable that she (Cate) did not win the award and it was given to Gwenyth Paltrow for Shakespeare in Love. This movie is so much more than that. It's empowering and innovative. There is no greater romance than that of a woman and her position in the world. Someday this story along with this movie will be compared to Columbus and Da Vinci. She is the woman who made being a woman so much more. Cate was the perfect woman for this role, like Meryl in Sophies Choice; this will be her legacy. Watch this movie. You will love this movie! Elizabeth left to imaginationI enjoy the movie despite the gore, and the gaps in history...good thing I read so much. I understood what was going on between the lords just because I like history. There is an intriguing tug of war going on that is hardly touched by this movie between the lords, their loyalties, and the Queen. Who says history is dull?I can guess what a lot of people must think when they see a movie about a queen who lived nearly 500 years ago....where's my pillow? but you won't sleep during this movie!! elizabeth comes to life as a fully dimensional character who feeels what we all feel, only she dealing with much more stress than anyone could ever imagine. she was expected to get a husband quickly, to cement her dynasty, therefore having a child and sitting back to let her husband take the reigns. not this remarkable woman. thruogh the genius of cate blanchett's amazing performance we see her love, laugh, grieve, all while running one of the superpowers of the world. she is constantly faced with danger, balancing out the new religion of her time, assasination attempts ( including one sanctioned by the pope himself ) everything and everyone entangled in palace intrigue all during the time she attempts to run the country and grow into a woman who would eventually usher in the "golden age". sometimes you forget she is the queen, and other times wondering how she could have coped ! so this is much more than a period piece, ( some of the time lines are muddled, but the stories of all that mattered are not ) i find it an amazing character study of a woman well ahead of her time. if only henry VIII could have seen what a woman could do, and i hope you do too..SayyadinaScore: 5/5
