Could be smarterIt's an "entertaining" movie regardless, however it doesn't make much more of a point than that of the simple man being blinded to questioning the faith they may have grown up with or brainwashed towards. What it doesn't do is give a much broader analyzation to all faiths through religious leaders, nor does it bend the backs of those in important religious positions. Rather it seems like he seeks out more simple minded folks or those who are easier to portray as foolish in their approach or perspective of their belief. Obviously they have to fit a certain amount of material into a specified time frame but I think he could have done a better job with the overall questions and rather than jibbing those with qualms of their belief, he could have had an actual sit-down with less wit and more charm. Don't get me wrong, I am an Omnitheist and my beliefs are that of acknowledging all knowledge and I have little tolerance for the "small-minded" folks of dangerous organizational religions such as the bigot church that protests at soldiers funerals. Their name isn't worth mentioning. However I think the approach to this movie could have been better if the point was to take the subject matter more seriously. Humor aside he does make good points here and there and is worth the watch. Just watch it with a grain of salt..Score: 4/5
Outstanding!Bill Maher is first and foremost a comic, but he has great credibility when it comes to social and political issues. This movie is great because Bill asks the right questions and gets the answers most agnostic or atheists get - dumb stares and fanatical drivel. Whats missing is more interviews with big names in the "believer" circle. Get some big names and listen to them talk around the issue (they have done so on other programs). It's far more revealing when a man that makes millions on faith based business gives you an answer like "the bible says..." or "just have faith" or simply talks around his beliefs instead of telling you why he believes. The film gets 4 1/2 (had to round up to 5) stars from me because it is missing the dumb answers from big names, and it's too short. I would have loved to see more from the "other" faiths other than the big three monotheistic cults. I think Bill could have made a series about this and started people really thinking about the waste of life they are spending on just believing just to believe, and the waste of money that faith based business has started! The other thing that is missing, but I understand why, is that it doesn't explore the "why" when it comes to dispelling blind faith. In just a few ways it is essential to get rid of the notion of religion, but in more ways (such as - some people are compelled only to be good, moral people due to their faith) it is a wasted effort. I think this topic in itself is whole new movie..Score: 5/5

They are meant to shine a warm and comfortable firelight on the already convicted.
