Journalist Elizabeth Lane is one of the country's most famous food writer. In her columns, she describes herself as a hard working farm woman, taking care of her children and being an excellent cook. But this is all lies. In reality she is an unmarried New Yorker who can't even boil an egg. The recipes come from her good friend Felix. The owner of the magazine she works for has decided that a heroic sailor will spend his Christmas on 'her' farm. Miss Lane knows that her career is over if the truth comes out, but what can she do?
While recovering in a hospital, war hero Jefferson Jones grows familiar with the "Diary of a Housewife" column written by Elizabeth Lane. Jeff's nurse arranges with Elizabeth's publisher, Alexander Yardley, for Jeff to spend the holiday at Elizabeth's bucolic Connecticut farm with her husband and child. But the column is a sham, so Elizabeth and her editor, Dudley Beecham, in fear of losing their jobs, hasten to set up the single, childless and entirely nondomestic Elizabeth on a country farm.

Bah HumbugEven though I recently developed a recent appreciation for young Barbara Stanwyck (via TCM - as a kid was more familiar with older Big Valley Stanwyck), I did not care so much for this. This movie is of course cute at times, and interesting to a point, it paints her character as a flake who jumps quickly into the arms of another younger (more appealing?) suitor, as if she is a teenager in love, and not ready to settle down. Hard to believe it passed the tough screeners back then. Not like it is a big deal, cause you do wonder why she agreed to marry the first man in the first place, but you almost feel sorry for him in the end. By the way I turned it off when they stole the horse carriage close to the end and the fat man was spying on them.....lol..Score: 2/5

Great Christmas Fun for Everyone!I am so happy to see that iTunes has added this movie! This movie is a Christmas Eve tradition for my family and I. The storyline is cute and enjoyable, with many funny moments. The whole cast is fantastic in this movie, especially Uncle Felix. If you enjoy Its a Wonderful Life, but are looking for a lighter movie, you should enjopy this treasure! The 1940s fashions are also a fun advantage of watching this movie. Its just one of my favorites, and I wouldnt be supreised if it becomes a favorite of yours too!.Score: 5/5
Terrible... Holy cow...I'm trying a bunch of oldie Christmas movies this season I've researched, & picked highly rated ones. I've seen a more than the average person. Reviews on this are high... But after watching it, that must be due to sentimentality! This movie essentially has nothing to do with Christmas, & is the most predictable movie I have ever seen. Corny writing, and unusually lazy acting, as well. One dimensional characters... Characters you can't get behind (support)... This movie is comparable to a modern day college student film... Do not watch this movie haha. (I watched it free, but came just to review it.) The other reviewers (yes, all of them) must have low standards/poor taste. Seriously..Score: 1/5

Classic Hollywood at Its Best!Barbara Stanwyck is great in this classic boy-meets-girl tale, with complications: she's supposed to be married with kids. They both try to resist while falling in deep. Humorous scenes with the Hungarian cook, pancake on the ceiling, a borrowed child (stand-in for hers), and fake husband. Great scenes with horse and sleigh over a snowy field. Highly recommend!!.Score: 5/5

An Entertaining OldieFun to watch Barbara Stanwyck and Sidney Greenstreet in their prime. Somewhat slapstick but still good fun..Score: 4/5
Christmas Cheer!"Christmas in Connecticut" is a clever, light-hearted comedy that works on every level due primarily to the superb chemistry between Dennis Morgan and Barbara Stanwyck. He plays WWII seaman Jefferson Jones, who is recovering from being lost at sea. She is Elizabeth Lane, a magazine columnist and homemaker extraodinaire. What Elizabeth's adoring fans and boss, played by Sydney Greenstreet, do not realize is that she is unmarried, childless and can't cook; she's a clueless Martha Stewart. Their worlds collide when seaman Jones' hospital nurse arranges to have him spend a good old-fashioned Christmas in a warm, country home in hopes of giving him a true picture of domestic life. Once this smart cast converges to spend Christmas in what they believe to be Elizabeth's Connecticut home the story takes off. Stanwyck is brilliant as the bewildered housewife, delivering a deft comedic performance. S. Z. Sakall's standout role as Elizabeth's long time friend and restaurateur, Felix, is a joy to watch. Easily a holiday favorite that gets better every year..Score: 5/5
