"Woodstock," the concert, gave voice to the spirit of a generation, offering the world a three-day microcosm of the turbulent '60s, set to the music of the era's greatest rock performers. "Woodstock," the film, captures it all, now with more than 40 minutes of added material and masterfully remixed sound. This Academy Award-winner for Best Documentary Feature shows in spectacular detail how and why the legendary "Summer of Love" festival was an historical event, and now features additional interviews, memorable footage and, of course, more of the music that brought this "happening" together. The Hollywood Reporter calls this "inspiring and dramatic... With the terrific new sound, gorgeous new prints and overall high quality of filmmaking, the entire film feels as fresh and vital as when it first burst on the scene in 1970." This ground-breaking documentary also offered an early career boost to a young Martin Scorsese ("GoodFellas," "The Aviator"), who served as an editor and assistant director. In 1996, the film was inducted into the Library of Congress National Film Registry.
An intimate look at the Woodstock Music & Art Festival held in Bethel, NY in 1969, from preparation through cleanup, with historic access to insiders, blistering concert footage, and portraits of the concertgoers; negative and positive aspects are shown, from drug use by performers to naked fans sliding in the mud, from the collapse of the fences by the unexpected hordes to the surreal arrival of National Guard helicopters with food and medical assistance for the impromptu city of 500,000.

About how beautiful life can be and this movie helps get the message across that woodstock was not only a place where kids came to get stoned but to also express the way they felt about the world. Welcome to Woodstock NationI was born years after Woodstock happened on a upstate New York farm and then turned into music history, but this documentary brings it alive to those flower children born a generation too late. This was how music was, in its greatest form. It's a shame music no longer sounds like this- us of the 2000s could really use someone with the guitar genius of Jimi Hendrix or the vocals of a Janis Joplin, to name a few of the legends that performed here. Woodstock was THE concert, and to me, nothing has and nothing will ever compare to it..Score: 5/5
The one thing you can't experience!I was at the festival for six days, two before and one after. By Sunday the stench of poop was overpowering. Still my time spent there was fantastic! PS: Joe Cocker died today and that made me really sad. When he performed at Woodstock most of us never heard of him but we knew him well when he finished his set!.Score: 5/5

Turn back time pleaseAt 62 i still love the music from this era and can not articulate what this period was like ... the statler brothers capture some of it in their song A child of the 50's...the performances by Santana and Ten Years After were incredible for live performances...wouldn't trade those years for anything, great time to "come of age" if however you were slogging through a rice paddy 1/2 way around the world or lost a loved one there then your POV would be different..Score: 5/5

Oh Real Music Where Have You GoneThis movie captures a beautiful time in music when music could still change the world for longer than a day or two. When music was not a commodity to be downloaded and pasted on some stupid corporate credit card or automotive ad. This was a time when you went out a bought a vinyl album and listened to it over and over while you studied every minute detail of the album sleeve cover art. I was born in 1968 and my mother was a 17 year old hippie so I grew up exposed to music other than the ‘Wheels on the Bus’ and looking back I can truly see what a magical time this was to be a young person in America and in just a few years how it would all change. I’m thankful documentaries such as this one exist to remind us all how special and important youth and music combined can be and how it can make the world a better place… if only for a little while. Get the soundtrack too so you can relive the images from the movie on your long commutes back and forth to your dead-end job. :).Score: 5/5
