Jim Douglass arrives in the small town of Rio Arriba in order to witness the hanging of the four men he believes murdered his wife. When the convicts escape, Jim tracks them into Mexico, determined to see that justice is done. But the farther Jim goes in his quest for vengeance, the more merciless he becomes, losing himself in an unrelenting spiral of hatred and violence.

A clunkerA stiff, cliche-ridden script, flat characters, and a completely miscast Gregory Peck. Average cinematography (featuring some "nighttime" scenes that were shot through a comically blue filter). A clumsy attempt to suggest salvation through a better-late-than-never return to the church (and where did this tiny frontier town come up with a giant cathedral, anyway?). Peck was showing up for a paycheck and stoically going through the motions, chewing his way through a lame script, and Joan Collins was trying to look as pretty as possible in an eye-candy role ("When I first met you, I was husband hunting") while wearing 1960s-era fashion.
