Teenagers in a small town are dropping like flies, apparently in the grip of mass hysteria causing their suicides. A cop's daughter, Nancy Thompson, traces the cause to child molester Fred Krueger, who was burned alive by angry parents many years before. Krueger has now come back in the dreams of his killers' children, claiming their lives as his revenge. Nancy and her boyfriend, Glen, must devise a plan to lure the monster out of the realm of nightmares and into the real world...

The Original (And The Best!)This is the best in the series by far. In most of the other ones, Freddy turns into a joke. He isn't scary, he's just silly. Some of the best Horror out of the 80sWhat could I say about this movie it’s a bona fide classic. This film is an absolute icon of the horror genre and pop culture and for very good reason. With many of the films that hit the 80s especially the mid-80s none hit as hard as this movie. Along with the late Wes Craven, Robert England and Heather Langenkamp. They put something together that lives on forever. From that this will tell you that this movie is an absolutely amazing piece of horror. Before Scream in 1996 that cemented the horror slasher formula today. While this film of course did not start the slasher formula. It is the second movie to make an icon. That icon of horror being Freddy Krueger the person who haunted teenager's dreams. A unique concept to come out of the time. It breathed in new life to the horror genre. To be honest not many horror films today would take a risk like this of taking an idea of a slasher and putting it in a whole new environment. While from a standpoint now the horror is not in your face scary like many films are today. The dark undertones of the film make it frightening as hell. Someone that can invade your most vulnerable moments in life and kill you where you lay. That is scarier than anything some people making horror can do today. The psychological torment on these characters is enthroning and terrifying by all means to the world. This movie was made by a new studio at the time New Line Cinema and they took on a film that they did not know was going to succeed or not. But surprise, surprise it blew audiences away in 1984. Even though I was not born I can see what it meant to people during this time. It is chilling, it’s different and it’s unique to every sense of the word. Performances by Heather Langenkamp as our lead sets up another strong final girl for a horror movie. Following Jamie Lee Curtis‘s Laurie Strode from Halloween in 1978. Heather brings a somewhat different take from Jamie. Being the very definition of a teenage girl growing up in the 80s. Having social issues with people, having struggles. But getting past all that and being one of the most badass female horror characters from the 1980s. She is accompanied by Robert England bringing the horror icon that is Freddy Krueger to life. He brilliantly captured someone to truly fear if you went to bed at night. Making it chilling whenever he popped up on the screen. Where later films in the series take the character in a little more of a comedic vibe. In the first film, he is pure horror. Now as I talked about this before this movie was a unique take on the slasher genre for the time and sometimes now. That is no more apparent in its plot, with it being a killer stalking teen's dreams. It goes much further than just that. The plot also gives you a true look into teenage life but also the past life of the parent's trauma when Krueger was alive. This movie's plot is far from the basic plots of some horrors we have today. The late Wes Craven wrote something he knew that might be a risk to put out there. But he did it and it made an impact that horror fans will never forget with its graphic horror practical effects that still hold up today. This movie will never be forgotten, so with that being said, I am of course giving this movie a 10/10..Score: 5/5
