Academy Award-honoree Peter O'Toole ("Venus," "Lawrence of Arabia") stars in this musical classic about a prim English schoolmaster who learns to show his compassion through the help of an outgoing showgirl. O'Toole, who received his fourth Oscar-nomination for this performance, is joined by '60s pop star Petula Clark ("Finian's Rainbow") and fellow Oscar-nominee Michael Redgrave ("The Lady Vanishes," "The Hill"). Directed by Oscar-nominee Herbert Ross ("The Vanishing Point," "Play it Again, Sam," "The Sunshine Boys").
A shy British teacher looks back nostalgically at his long career, taking note of the people who touched his life.

Or you a lover of movie musicals from "My Fair Lady" to "West Side Story" to "The Sound of Music".... and you have never seen this movie.... Or you just don't believe it when Hollywood says there is no audience for musicals or "women's films" anymore....and you have never seen this movie.... RENT IT OR BUY IT! (And pull out a hankie!) AS WONDERFUL NOW A IT WAS IN 1969While I saw this movie when it first came out in 1969 I still hum songs from it every now and then. The score is splendid and O'Toole and Clark have a charm that survives even 40 years later. I'm delighted that iTunes finally made it available..Score: 5/5
I really love this moviePeter Otoole is one of the greatest actors who ever lived but for me the movie belongs to Petula Clark. She is so lovely in this that I watched this movie over and over. This is not Rodgers and Hamerstein or Lerner and Lowe and you won't be humming the tunes after but somehow as a love story it all works and works better than just about anything I've ever seen. I even like their arguments in the movie. They argue like people in love argue. The supporting cast includes Michael Redgrave and it doesn't get better than that. If you love a love story do yourself a favor and rent or buy this movie. I enjoyed it so much I'm going to watch it again..Score: 5/5
