Posing for a portrait, Dorian Gray talks with Lord Henry Wotton, who says that men should pursue their sensual longings, but laments that only the young get to do so. Taken with the idea, Dorian imagines a scenario in which the painting will age as he stays youthful. His wish comes true, and his boyish looks aid him as he indulges his every whim. But when a stunning revelation forces him to see what he's become, Dorian faces some very dangerous questions.

DissapointedFor those who have read the book, this movie will be almost a great dissapointment. Dumbed down, many things were changed, they played it way too safe, yes I know, it is the 40's... There just is not a good movie on Oscar Wilde's only novel. However, many lines from the book do appear in the movie. Those were my favorite parts..Score: 2/5
Don't Watch Alone!Maybe my sister and I are just scaredy cats for not moving from the couch for a few minutes after watching this (probably didn't help that we were already spooked out!), maybe not, decide for yourselves! Be prepared though, it might do the same to you! :) Great film!.Score: 5/5
Acting is incredibly woodenThere are some changes from the original novel by Wilde--which enhance the plot. But the acting is so boring that the actors have made Wilde's dialogue uninteresting, and that's a shame. When Basil discovers his painting has altered at the end of the film, he displays zero emotion; no reaction at all. I've seen more disgust from people at the local sandwich shop when they discover their sandwich doesn't have enough mayo. This is to say nothing of Dorian himself. The actor has chosen to have the same facial expression throughout the entire movie. The only bright spot is Angela Lansbury..Score: 1/5

GreatVery, very good movie. Plot and cast create an incredible atmosphere. I read the book and knew already what was going to happen, still I could feel goosebumps when, for example, Dorian sees his altered portrait. The fact the movie is in black and white, and some parts in Technicolor, makes Dorian`s situation even scarier. 5 stars!.Score: 5/5
