Both directed by and starring Ed Harris in the title role, "Pollock" examines the famous artist from his early roots in the New York art scene, his quick rise to international stardom and his subsequent, self-inflicted downfall.

In August of 1949, Life Magazine ran a banner headline that begged the question: "Jackson Pollock: Is he the greatest living painter in the United States?" The film is a look back into the life of an extraordinary man, a man who has fittingly been called "an artist dedicated to concealment, a celebrity who nobody knew." As he struggled with self-doubt, engaging in a lonely tug-of-war between needing to express himself and wanting to shut the world out, Pollock began a downward spiral.

Good portraitReally enjoyed this film, Ed Harris is a versatile actor and although I’m only familiar with Pollock’s painting and not his life story I feel like this wasn’t over-dramatised too much. Makes me wish he had filmed the process of painting his most famous works for us to see them come to life..Sam968Score: 4/5
Powerful and honestEd Harris not only stars but directs and you can tell it was a labor of love. The essense of the zeitgeist is brilliantly caught. Harris gets this paradox: a creative force of nature that is utterly self-destructive. I found a lot of sympathy for his Pollack but then again I'm not a feminist. To honestly protray this earnest wildman is important if for nothing else as comparison to his ironic PC inheritors. Also, its bitter fun to watch a sacred monster struggle, suffer and cause such suffering for Lee Krasner, his self-appointed savior, whom he ultimately betrays. But I look at his work itself with more than a touch of sadness. What if he had followed in the footsteps of his mentor, Thomas Hart Benton? I wonder what he could have become had he managed to avoid the negative energy of Expressionism and the manic egotism it required..IdealartScore: 5/5

È indubbio però che ciò che ha raggiunto Ed Harris dirigendo e interpretando questo film è l'attenzione dello spettatore, e sicuramente molti di quelli che lo hanno visto hanno voluto saperne di più su Jackson Pollock, uno dei più grandi artisti del ventesimo secolo. Ogni singolo gesto che compiva sulla tela aveva sempre un significato per lui e per chi ha la sensibilità di trovarlo. La storia narrata nel film, il rapporto con Lee Krasner, è fedele alla realtà.
